Charles Tillman’s storied 12-year tenure with the Bears officially ended Thursday. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback agreed to a one-year contract with the Panthers, where he will be reunited with coach Ron Rivera.

Tillman exits as one of the best defensive backs in team history. The man nicknamed “Peanut” leaves a legacy defined by an uncanny ability to punch the ball loose from opposing ballcarriers and a deep passion for community service.

Bears Chairman George McCaskey in a statement called Tillman “one of the best to ever wear blue and orange.”

Was a great corner in his day, and probably the most underrated of the past decade. Along with Harper this makes up an excellent veteran mentoring presence for the young secondary.

If nothing else, we've now got two Walter Payton Men of the Year winners on the same team... that can only be good for a locker room. I wonder if that's ever happened before?

Best signing we've made all off-season. .

Now the draft is truly a crap shot/BPA for Gettlemen. ..

I don't know where we go in the 1st round. ..

He's had some injury problems the last couple of years, but if I remember right he was on some sort of historical pace for most of 2012 - his last healthy season.

If he can stay healthy he should at the very least be solid in our zone defense scheme despite his age with has high as his football IQ is and knack for being in the right spot and forcing turnovers... assuming our front 7 plays to their potential this season.

Josh Norman will draw the #1 assignments, while Benwikere and Tillman will alternate #2s. Vincent Jackson, Marques Colston, Andre Johnson, and Roddy White will get Tillman since they're taller, slower, and older WRs. Benwikere will get the shorter, faster, and younger #2s like Cobb, Cruz, or DeSean Jackson. Nickel defense will have Tillman on the outside and Benwikere in the slot coverage.

Nothing wrong with this signing at all, but this doesn't change the draft imo. There's still a pretty big need at corner. I don't expect Gettleman to bank on a 35 year old corner coming off of multiple injuries.

I like Peanut. A 1st team all-pro in '12...before the injuries took him off the field the last two years. If he can stay on the field, he will be a massive upgrade for our secondary.

The only thing I'm really expecting is him being a good mentor to our younger DBs. ..and showing them how to punch the ball out. Peanut has like 42 FF in his career.

I believe it to be a good signing, as long as he's not brought in to do much more than mentor the younger players in the Panthers secondary.

They loved the guy in Chicago, but fans realize he's pretty far past his prime.
