Buccaneers putting Marcus Mariota through private workout

It is widely assumed, and for good reason, that the Buccaneers are locked in on Florida State’s Jameis Winston with the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

But since they’re giving themselves a month before they declare, they have to look at others too, and that means doing research on the other top quarterback in this year’s draft.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Bucs are sending a five-man contingent to Oregon to work out Mariota today.

Specifically, General Manager Jason Licht, head coach Lovie Smith, director of player personnel Jon Robinson, offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian are making the trip. Licht, Robinson and Bajakian were also on hand for his pro day workout in mid-March.

The Bucs have also brought Mariota in for the meet the parents sessions with ownership, and have given every indication they’re seriously considering him.

Of course, a cynic would simply suggest they’re waiting to see if Winston screws up again in the next month, at which point they would simply move onto the next quarterback on their list, one which they have appropriately vetted beforehand.

They will go with Jameis........and within a couple of years, after another woman accuses him of something... the media will destroy him.......and Goodell and the Bucs will strongly urge Winston to go on the commish list until things die down. On the commish list, it doesn't matter if he's the best qb to ever play the game....... if he's not actually out there, playing the game.

Mariota is the safe option. He also isn't entering the draft with potentially two rape accusations under his belt.

Used to be a rule about taking WRs from Florida during the Spurrier years. They'd flame out fast in the NFL. Panthers are gun-shy about WRs from USC after drafting Keary Colbert and Dwayne Jarrett a few years back. LTs from Texas A&M might be trending that way, but there's time for Matthews to prove himself and Ogbuehi to start giving a d@mn. But the FSU QBs lately seem to be following the flame out rule with Chris Weinke, Christian Ponder, and EJ Manuel. Since Bucs are in the division, I'm hoping Winston follows in their footsteps.

You make up this **** as you go, huh? They've been planning for weeks to see Mariota, then fly back and see Winston the following day. If you ever point that vivid imagination on the Falcons, your head would probably explode.laugh.pnglaugh.png

One more season with Glennon, jb, and possibly wait to draft from next years QB crop? Trade back get more picks pick up Mariota? Maybe the safer option...

Thank God you have nothing to do with the Buccaneers decision making.wink.png

I still maintain that ArmaGlennon is one of the greatest sports nicknames of all time. If he could have lived up to it, it would have been even better.

IF...but he couldn't. The kid is completely lacking the IT Factor. Completely!
