If This Is Going To Be A Complete Rebuild Then Trade Freeman And Simmions.

Why half *** it, if this is going to be a complete rebuild? Lets get a huge haul for them while they are in their primes. I wouldn't be surprised if they are traded in season, or during the next off season. I would absolutely hate to lose them, seeing as they are the only good players on the team.

But to start a new, we need to trade the remaining good players from the old regime.

And fire Fredi Gonzales.

Gattis is a DH type player and already baseball old for catching. We didn't have a position for him. We did him a favor trading him to an AL team. That probably added 3 years to his career. His body was already showing strain last year from catching and he was a horrible left fielder. Did everyone forget his dl stints last year?

Kimbrel was a luxury. Now he can be on a contender and his pitching mean something. Great closers are wasted on anything but playoff teams. We did him a favor also.

Why is this so hard to grasp?

We had the second fewest runs in the NL last year and Kimbrel still led the league in saves. Acting like we will be out of 90 games this year is ludicrous.

Gattis platooning with Bethancourt would have been just fine, and have given us a great bench bat to pinch hit when we needed it

I'd also like to point out that they've said from the start that this was going to be a partial rebuild. Hart said something to the effect that he could do a complete tear down rebuild in Cleveland since the fans wouldn't care up there but if he did the same here (ie. get rid of literally everyone) then the fans would riot. They moved players in contract years (eg. Justin, Heyward), were in limbo in terms of starting roles (eg. Gattis), moved some non-essential players to get some extra prospects and free up roster spots (eg. Hale, La Stella), and made a sacrifice to get rid of Melvin (eg. Kimbrel), all to rebuild a farm system which they said from the start was their focus to rebuild and to create better financial flexibility in terms of signing players. They have left a young corps of players (Freeman, Simmons, Teheran, Wood, etc.) to build around, signed Markakis because he can be useful on and off the field during this transition, and signed players who can be placeholders until the prospects develop and/or who fill roles that can become valuable in trade towards the deadline (ie. Grilli, Johnson).

We have gone from arguably the worst farm system in MLB to one of the healthiest in one offseason, we are loaded in terms of top 50 draft picks and international spending cap, our front office is now loaded with highly regarded scouts and talent developers, we can more easily spend money in free agency and extensions after this season, and we still have plenty of top notch young veterans to build around. It's just a matter of being patient now.

Freeman, face of the franchise. Simmons, 25 year old defensive ace under team friendly contract until he's 32. Did you not see Bethancourt call a gem and gun down the league leader in stolen bases?

That's why Gattis and Betancourt is a good platoon. If it's the 9th inning and you need someone at the plate, you could've pinched Gattis. And Gattis is serviceable for Bethancourts off days, because believe either or not, he won't play every game

You do not pinch hit for your catcher if you only have 1 other on the roster, every manager lives by this mantra. It's common sense, try to exercise a bit of it instead of just complaining and crying in every post you make.

I can't wait for the draft. The Braves have like 6 or 7 picks in the top 83 and it's going to be fun to see who we land.

Our farm system is going to be beyond stocked. Considering it jumped from around 30th to top 10 in 1 offseason is pretty impressive. I get what Hart is doing...

if Gattis was on the team we'd have a third catcher, crazy right?

Dude, most of the pundits are universally praising the move. Let it go...it's done and the Braves did real well to get what they got. If you don't like it so much, stop watching:

Because I don't like it I'm supposed to stop watching? Sorry man, get over it, I'm not praising Hart like everyone else here
