Bpa In The First, Then Address Our Needs From There

I'm becoming increasingly aware of the overuse of 'BPA' and the need to cut it back. Best Player Available might be what this guy or that guy says is the highest ranked player on his board but that's not what the draft is about. When you're drafting you are making a commitment to a group of players saying that you think they can help you win. If Marcus Mariota is still on the board at 8, he's the BPA. Do you draft him? No. You draft someone that can actually help you win football games in 2015 and beyond.

So can we please stop with this nonsense?

Yeah because we need a qb? Hit yourself in the head for that comment.

I think the sentiment is don't pass up an elite talent for a 2nd tier talent. If we have em ranked closely then need is the obvious tie breaker.

I see Dupree as an example of a guy who is just not a top 10 prospect. He is a riskier bet because what he showed in college isn't an nfl ready game. Meanwhile, Scherff and the 2 WR are day 1 starters.

Just my take on the draft. It's hard to screw it up doing it that way. Just my opinion.

What's unique and lucky for falcons this year (at least on paper) is that BPA will be a pass rusher.

The jump from Kroy -> Gregory is bigger than the jump from Roddy -> Cooper.

Agree with you on Dupree.

Splitting hairs I know, but neither WR would be a day 1 starter for falcons over Roddy/Julio.

So at what point do you draft a pass rusher. If you have the 8th overall pick you draft the best pass rusher available. He's a heck of a lot better than the pass rusher available at your second round selection. The number three rated pass rusher in this years draft presents way more value to this current team than the number one receiver. We have a huge opportunity to draft a pass rushing talent this year just as we had the opportunity to draft a LT last year. It's wouldn't make sense to squander the eight overall pick on something other than a top pass rushing talent.

For those not understanding how BPA really works and what it means I will give you a example. Say all With our current roster Beasley, Fowler, and Gregory are off the board and you are left with Cooper, Ray, Dupree, Scherff, and Winston. You have grades on Winston, Scherff, Cooper. Ray and Dupree you rank 12th to 15th what player do you take? You can rule out Winston for many reasons so you are then totally free to draft your board. I actually have Cooper rated higher than Scherff and know he will never make it to 8 but in this scenario I would take probably go with Scherff because of the numbers game and the fact I have them rated pretty closely.

Here is a good article on just what a numbers game the draft is.
