birdz4i
After getting cut by the Oakland Raiders earlier this March, veteran quarterback Matt Schaub’s run as a highly paid arm in the NFL came to an end, but his NFL career will continue this upcoming season as reports have surfaced that Schaub will be signing a deal within the week to a likely backup role within the league.Schaub lost his starting job in both Houston and Oakland in the last two seasons, losing the Raiders job in the preseason to Derek Carr after being traded by the Texans in the 2014 offseason. Arm issues as well as being past his prime causing the quarterback to slide into a reduced role as a placeholder and garbage time backup for the Raiders in 2014 where he failed to start a single game despite getting paid handsomely as a well noted mentor to Carr while holding kicks successfully for Sebastian Janikowski.ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning that Schaub will be looking to continue that sort of role in 2015 by signing with a team as he still has interest around the league as a veteran presence in the QB room despite being beyond his days as a starting talent. The Jets, Ravens and Falcons three teams reported by Schefter to have interest in Schaub’s services.Adam Schefter ✔ @AdamSchefter FollowLook for former Raiders QB Matt Schaub to sign this week, per source. Interested teams include Jets, Ravens, Falcons, amongst others. The most interesting of the three teams interested in Schaub are the New York Jets, who seem to be stockpiling veteran quarterbacks after already locking down Ryan Fitzpatrick earlier this offseason. Fitzpatrick replaced Schaub as the starter in Houston this past season, so a training camp of Schaub, Fitzpatrick and the young Geno Smith would be an interesting trio to say the least in New York.Atlanta’s interest in Schaub is also another intriguing storyline as the quarterback could return to where he got his start in the league, backing up Michael Vick with the Falcons before reaching the peaks of his career with the Texans. Matt Ryan is firmly the starter in Georgia, but an emergency veteran role for Schaub with his former team could be a good fit if he decides to become a Falcon for the second time in his career.Wherever Schaub signs it is unlikely he will get many, if any, looks at the starting job after 2013 and 2014 proved that he likely will never be the player he once was with the Texans. Never a superstar, Schaub is now going to be living the life of many former serviceable starters who get final paydays from teams to hold a clipboard and provide encouragement from the sidelines while being able to come in if all goes wrong. Don’t expect Schaub to have a comeback story anytime soon, but a few more seasons of a backup role would be much deserved for a player who has knowledge to offer and can also provide special teams help as a placeholder even if he is nearing retirement in the coming years.http://justblogbaby.com/2015/03/30/matt-schaub-continuing-career-signing-new-deal-this-week/
CraigSmackDaddy
Always liked Schaub. He would be a better backup than Yares.
Tuggle'2
More than welcome in my opinion. Always has a backup spot in the ATL in my book.

slamee101
I think I'd rather not as well. People can talk about Yates all they want but honestly if we had a situation where Ryan had to be out I'd have more confidence in TJ.

SyCo
Will never forget that punched in the gut feeling when we lost vick and shabby was tearing it up in Houston. I'd rather have a veteran backup than yates any day.
Atlantafan21
Would be a good backup, something falcons haven't had for a while now. I have no faith in Suck Renfree and barely any for Yates, although his favorite team growing up was the Falcons, which is pretty cool. Herr Doktor
Renfree is almost criminally under rated. He's better than Yates. We don't need Schaub.

Hooper72
Bring him in and let him compete for the backup role. It can't hurt. I'll never forget that game in the Dome against the Patriots. Schaub got robbed on that run that was clearly a first down. Stupid refs.
McNulty
Neither Yates nor Schaub is much anymore. I can't believe we gave Yates as much as we did. He looked bad
DonDaLuvMaker
I don't know.Schaub has seemed to hit a career wall hard.He was awful during his last year with the Texans in 2013.He also was not good in the very short time he played with the Raiders last season. Guest Negatorris
Doesn't matter. If Ryan goes down, we're done regardless. Unless Quinn surprises me and builds a legit defense and we can survive until Ryan returns like GB did a couple seasons ago with ARod.
