Gattis was a better AL fit. He can DH there. We did the guy a favor. Freddi didn't know how to use him anyway.

I am not sold on the guys we got back, but I don't fault the deal. Same with upton. Heyward on the other hand.... It's too bad we didn't at least offer the guy something. And apparently wren didnt.

Never wanted Lofton in the first place.

Same here! Hated Kenny Lofton and it didn't help that he was a diva that butted heads with Bobby and his way of doing things which is why his stint with the Braves lasted just 1 year like Bret Boone's in 1999. Add in that they gave up David Justice and Marquis Grisson (two of my favorite players ever) and it just broke my heart.

That's another thing - keeping Freaky I mean Freddi. He can't even make a line-up card. Gattis was clutch. But you are probably right about his deal. and thanks for your reply.

How could you make up a lineup card with what we had last year? His choices were which strike out specialist was he going to insert into which spot. He tried everything. Some lineups he wrote worked for a while and he stuck with it until it didn't click anymore.

Gattis was a great story, but there was nowhere to put him in the field. American League is the place for him.

We panicked way too much after the 1996 meltdown against the Yankees. They disassembled that team too soon. I know it was a contract dump that enabled us to do long term deals with Maddux and Glavine, but it ruined the chemistry.

Also, don't forget the Jermaine Dye trade to KC in exchange for Michael Tucker and Keith Lockhart. Dye had not yet reached his potential but was ready to step into the lineup. He went on to have a very nice career.
