2015 Imd Free Agency Week 2 Bids

263 posts in this topic

Here is the link for all of the Week 1 Free Agents https://sites.google.com/site/afmdimd/free-agents/p-k-free-agents-2012

Free Agency Rules:

1. There is no limit to the number of free agents a team can sign as long as you are under your salary cap.

2. Deals offered can be from 1 - 6 years in length, but only the 1st year base salary plus bonus applicable to the 1st year will be deducted from your cap space.

3. For any deal more than 1 year in length, if the base salary is 5 million or greater, the base salaries can only increase by a maximum of 20% per season. For 1st year base salaries lower than 5 million, the maximum increase per season cannot exceed 1 million dollars.

4. No single player can exceed 75% of your cap space.

5. 1st year Base salaries need to be in multiples of, 000 or 250, or 500, or 750. This is to make things easier on me. Examples salaries are 750,000, or 1,000,000, or 1,250,000, or 1,500,000, or 1,750,000. An invalid salary would be 1,350,000. Invalid salaries will void your deal and it will not be accepted.

5b. No placeholder type bids this year on “superstar” players. Once I take a look at the list of FAs, I will rank a percentage of them and divvy out minimum bids that can be made for these players. I will put them in groups, for example groups of 10 (this isn’t set yet, so don’t hold me to this number). The top group of 10 will only entertain offers of say $5,000,000 minimum 1st year cap hit. Group 2 maybe $4,000,000 and so on. This is a big change that everyone needs to be aware of and take notice. THERE WILL STILL BE PLENTY OF PLAYERS WHO WILL ACCEPT THE MINIMUM $250,000 BID. I WON’T MAKE ALL OF THE PLAYERS HAVE A HIGHER BID.

6. Signing bonuses cannot equal an amount more than 3 times the year 1 base salary. If they do, then your offered deal is invalid & will be rejected. Additionally, all bonuses must be equally divisible by the number of years in the deal. For example a 10 million dollar bonus with a 2 million dollar base salary in year 1 is not valid, but a 6 million dollar bonus would be valid with a 2 million dollar base salary. Also, a bonus of 10 million dollars on a 3 year deal is not valid, but a 9 or 12 million dollar bonus would be valid since it can be divided by the number of years that the contract is for.

7. When you make an offer, that offer cannot make you go over your salary cap. Once you reach your cap space in player salaries (year 1 of the contract only) you cannot make any more bids unless you drop one of your previous offers. I will make a good faith effort to check this daily and I will drop the newest offer first and keep dropping offers until I get you below your cap.

8. Free Agency this year will have free agents divided into 2 groups, Group 1 will run from 9 – 13 Feb. Group 2 will run from 16 – 20 Feb. Group 3 will run from 23 – 25 Feb. The weekends for the first 2 groups will the bidoff. The bidoff for week 3 is Feb. 26th. The bidoff is only be for players who have offers from AT LEAST 2 teams. The only participants in the bidoff are people who had previously placed bids on a player during the week. If you are the only bidder for a player at 12:01am Saturday, the player is awarded to you at that point. If there is more than 1 bid on a player at 12:01am each Saturday, then the player will not be awarded until Monday morning. During the bidoff period, if you have previously made a bid on a player, and that bid was still in place at midnight on Friday night, you can RAISE your bid as necessary to try and make sure the player signs a contract with you. You still have to make sure you are under the cap. In addition to raising your bid, you can also cancel a bid in order to make a higher bid on a different player. If by canceling a bid, only 1 team remains as a bidder for a free agent, that player is immediately awarded to the team with the remaining bid.

9. In close bidding, the FA winner will be determined by me. Primary factor is contract. Additional factors are things like, team need (will he be a starter on 1 team & a backup on another) and home team discount (don't count on that saving you though if you are the team a FA last played for) and, if the player has, in real life, stated a preference for playing somewhere.

10. ALL OFFERS WILL HAPPEN ABOVE THE TABLE!!!!! YOU CANNOT PM ME WITH AN OFFER OR TO DO ANY NEGOTIATIONS!!!!!! ALL OFFERS MUST BE POSTED IN THE THREAD!!!!

Timeline:

Groups – There will be a randomly selected groups of free agents. Not all free agents are available during each group 1. I will try to divvy up the better players between group 1 & group 2. The intent here is to speed things up, or at least give the appearance of speeding them up with Free Agents being awarded sooner & not dragging out all winning FA bids for 3 weeks.

Group 1 – Runs from 9-13 Feb with a bidoff period of 14/15 Feb. Awards will be on Monday the 16th.

Group 2 – Runs from 16-20 Feb with a bidoff period of 21/22 Feb. Awards will be on Monday the 23th

Group 3 – Runs from 23-25 Feb with a bidoff period of 26 Feb. Awards will be on Feb 27th. Group 3 is a little different. It will be a combination of all players who did not have bids during group 1 or group 2. This is your chance to pick up a FA in a position that you might have missed on in the other 2 group phases. There will be no new FAs during this period.

Bidoff – any player with more than 1 bid will go into a bid-off phase. From Saturday at 12:01AM until Sunday at 11:59pm, if you have already bid on a player during the week you can adjust your bid if you think it is necessary to make sure you win the player. During this bid-off time, you may increase (not decrease) the bid on that player or you may pull your bid from a player, or you can keep it as it was when the bid-off started. If by pulling your bid, you leave a player with only 1 bid, that player is immediately awarded to the team with the active bid. The bidoff period is to try and prevent a person from coming on Friday and making top bids on several players at the last minute & snagging them.

Here are a few examples of how Free Agency can work:

Say Tim Hasselbeck is an URFA. I want him so I make the following bid:

Tim Hasselbeck

3-year deal with a $1,500,000 signing bonus (bonus equally divisible by the number of years, and the number is equal to a $000,000/250000/500000/750000)

Year 1 Base Salary $750,000

Year 2 Base Salary $1,000,000

Year 3 Base Salary $2,000,000

Year 1 cap hit is $1,250,000

Total salary is $5,250,000

To explain the cap hit, it is the Year 1 base salary plus the 1 season average of the signing bonus. To figure how much bonus to apply to each year of the deal, I divide the bonus amount

by the number of years. The bonus is $1,500,000 on a 3-year deal. So in this case the bonus equals $500,000 per season. Add the $500,000 to the year 1 base of $750,000 and my cap hit is now $1,250,000 for this player.

Example 2

Randy Moss

6 year deal with a $24,000,000 signing bonus (max signing bonus is 3 times the year 1 base salary & easily divisible)

Year 1 base Salary $8,000,000

Year 2 base salary $9,500,000

Year 3 base salary $11,750,000

Year 4 base salary $14,000,000

Year 5 base salary $16,500,000

Year 6 base salary $19,750,000

Year 1 cap hit is $12,000,000

Total salary is $103,500,000

Base salary (8 million) + Prorated signing bonus (24 million/6) = Year 1 cap hit (8 million + 4 million = 12 million)

PLEASE put all your bids in the format of these 2 examples, including the Year 1 cap hit and total salary. It will make it much easier on everyone as they decipher your bids.

Rule 5b. I am not providing a list of players, but common sense should prevail. I will quote/post that a bid is too low if I think that the bid is too low.

One note about signing bonuses, I will allow signing bonuses that end in 250, 500, or 750 as well as the 000. So a 4 year deal with a 10 million signing bonus is 2,500,000 per year added to the cap hits. The max remains 3 times the year 1 salary.

I will ask 3 things of everyone...

1. PLEASE spell out the player's name. No 1st initial and last name. That will be a big help as I look for these guys in the spreadsheet to update.

2. PLEASE use this format above for the bids. It has the information where I can just glance & fill in the spreadsheets without having to search your whole post or figure out the information that might have been left out.

3. PLEASE put your team name on all bid.

Lmfao I'm glad he's not the Falcons' GM

I got money to burn and I don't have time to wait until Friday like I normally do. Instantly gets rid of all the pretenders for Bryant and makes them throw their money elsewhere though.

Heya SnellingSomethingGood...I don't think your offer for Sheard is right, ok. Six years is the limit on contracts, and bonuses have to spread out evenly over the length of the deal. You might want to check on the rules at the site and see, but I believe what I posted is correct.
