Falcons' New-Look Front Office Isn't Ravens Model

The Falcons say they are using the Ravens as the model for their restructured front office but whatever it is that Arthur Blank just announced doesnt look like what the Ravens do.

In Baltimore, general manager Ozzie Newsome is clearly the boss of football operations with coach John Harbaugh working under him. In Atlanta, Blank seems to want to be the quasi-head of the Falcons football operations with the yet-to-be-hired head coach reporting to him and not general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

It said Pioli and Dimitroff would report to him separately.

Where did it say the new head coach would report directly to Blank?\

Edit- Nevermind I found the second link.

Bizarre. If he doesn't trust his GM and Head Coach to work together he truly needs a new GM.

And I say that as a Dimitroff apologist.

There is NO comparison. People just say things around here.

In Atlanta, you will have the new coach bypassing Dimitroff and going straight to Blank for these kinds of issues and Blank making the call. Normally this would be seen as a breach of trust, the coach going over the GMs head, but Blank has codified this weird coach/GM relationship into the formal structure of his front office.

To be fair, it's not really what people are saying here. It's how the Falcons are spinning it to the media, or at least how some in the media are interpreting it.

"According to ESPN Insider Chris Mortensen, Dimitroff retains final say on personnel despite the restructuring, which follows the Baltimore Ravens' model."

Ah, you were talking about the FO. Gotcha.

Yes, you're correct. It's like "pick a successful franchise, and we'll say this goofy thing we just did is the way they do stuff." Sort of like how TD drafts in the Patriots model, you know, by trading up and drafting strictly for need.

Its pretty embarrassing, and fans should be intellectually offended. They are hoping most are clueless on the Ravens. This is NOT how they work...not even close...:(

Not to mention, who cares how the Ravens do it? I want the model that says Ozzie Newsome is coming here to be our GM, not the model that shifts our puzzle pieces around to be arranged more like their, better, puzzle pieces.

Its amazing how it comes down to a play here and a play there and coaches, players, and gms are considered the greatest.

Some say dan reeves was best falcons coach ever. if gary Anderson makes the field goal than the Vikings are in superbowl instead of the falcons. so it came down to one kick to make dan reeves the best falcons coach ever. that is so crazy.

I think he is good. just saying championships are what makes players, coaches, and gm's great, not winning seasons. ravens lucked out on their last superbowl. shouldn't have even made the playoffs. that one miracle 4th and 25 against the chargers got them in.

his first year as gm was the other superbowl they won right? swifty says previous gm gets credit up until about year three. lol
