Agree with the rest- just wanted to say that, if Rex is the coach, it'll be a 2 pass rusher minimum every pass play.

It just grinds my gears, especially having played and been a DB who depends on the pass rush, to see us seriously believe we were going to get pressure with a lone pass rusher and he not even be our best pass rusher. I'm still trying to think of the last time a defense was successful using only one pass rusher.

They must have worked all this out with Rexy last night! smile.png

I agree. The timing of this announcement the very next day just doesn't seem at all like coincidence, but rather Blank validating to Ryan what he wanted the FO situation to be. Not to mention, Ryan or whoever ends up HC reports directly to Blank, not TD.

Everybody needs to chill. This is a good thing. Can't be much worse if no action was taken and TD was still doing the same bs he does. And last I checked Baltimore are doing great. If we can just barely replicate that in the ATL with Matt Ryan as QB. Heh I know we got some superbowls coming to us in a few years. So everyone relax. I think it was a good decision and action.

Agree. Although it's tempting to just go ahead and crucify Artie on the cross of past failures, I admit I like these changes. This seems to be an exceptionally good start on pushing this team back towards the top of the league.

Hey young Thomas, we're out of mouth pieces and jock straps, can you handle getting us some more please.........oh, and you don't have to video the purchase this time

LMAO.......wonder if being in charge of equipment means he also has to clean the toilets now. That video someone posted of Forrest Gump and Bubba cleaning the floor with the toothbrushes instantly comes to mind

1969, so 7-9, 8-8 would've been a successful offseason? Not. Didn't get much from Solai, Jackson,(gonna give them 1 more chance under the new coach however. But its not looking good so far) or Hester imo..Heck, Dwight Lowery was their best acquisition.(besides Jake) And that was an easy one. They just had to find someone better than Decouldnt...

Maybe Pioli will shed the anti-SEC bias that we've seemed to have. I'm so tired of seeing LSU, Bama, UGA, etc. players flourishing for other franchises.

oh good lord, there is NO anti SEC bias in the Falcons. this is brought up from time to time and someone posted a rather extensive list of players brought in the last 7 years from the SEC.

Here's a few just off the top of my head:

Peria Jerry, Mississippi

Mike Johnson, AL,

Coery Peters, Kentucky

Chevis Jackson, LSU,

Jake Matthews, Texas A&M,

Julio Jones, AL,

Travian Robertson, South Carolina,

Cliff Matthews, South Carolina,

Akeem Dent, UGA,

Thomas Brown, USA,

Keith Zinger, LSU.......

those are just off the top of my head. Do y'all expect every player drafted to be from an SEC school? oh, and the other teams are supposed to skip over them and leave them ALL for us?

Most HC want the some power of determining personnel. Is this arrangement appealing to HC candidates? It seems now that the Head Coach has to go through SP, the asst GM, but who is in direct charge of scouting & drafting but then he has to get approval from the GM to make the final decision. Sounds like too many Chiefs to me....

Twitter chatter seems to think this is less of a move than it reads. If it isn't, I think it could be a very successful approach. Dimitroff's strength has been his cap management and he'd still have final say but Pioli would likely build the organizational knowledge base from draft to draft, FA to FA. I would have liked to see the FO look at getting Tom Gamble in here for a fresh voice but I think Pioli did fairly well as a GM, he just picked the wrong coach and QB. We already have the QB and Blank is going to pick the coach. Pioli can do what he's best at.

It's great to see SEC players on this team, but could TD actually get the GOOD players of the SEC? Those guys are **** except maybe 2...

Anything that diminishes TD's role in scouting or drafting is good news indeed. This is exactly how Mr. Blank managed McKay after his disastrous hiring of Petrino. It appears Mr. Blanks modus operandi for an incompetent manager is not to fire him, but to emasculate him instead. This really leads one to wonder who has any ultimate authority in Flowery Branch. Is Mr. Blank going the way of Jerry Jones without the title?

The Falcons appear more and more to be a soap opera at this time instead of a football operation. Hiring the madcap Rex Ryan would be the cornerstone of the new circus in town.

Poor Matt Ryan. First he has no offensive line, then he gets no defense, followed by an inept game manager, and now his future is controlled by looney tunes incorporated managing the show.

Per Jay,

https://twitter.com/falconsjadams/status/552959444242284545

@FalconsJAdams: The Falcons have announced a restructuring of the player personnel department today.

@FalconsJAdams: Assistant General Manager Scott Pioli will take on pro and college scouting and NFL Draft responsibilities, reporting to Dimitroff.

@FalconsJAdams: Dimitroff will also retain management responsibility for salary cap, player affairs, equipment, sports medicine and performance, and video.

Dimitroffed.

Not sure how I feel about this. Appreciate that it goes through TD, but Pioli has been responsible for taking Tyson Jackson with the 3rd overall pick, taking Javier Arenas in the second round and Baldwin in the first.

Saying that, pretty sure he also took Houston, Asamoah and Poe.
