I Don't Think Td Is The Problem

He's had some misses but he did assemble a team that got to the NFC championship game, then after a disaster of a season with a team that showed numerous holes managed to put together a team that should be 8-6 right now with the division on lock. If he fills holes like he did in the last draft / free agency then we should have a good team again. He deserves at least one more year imo.

I too think we had a good to great draft this year when you look at how well not just Matthews has played for a rookie but Hageman, and our linebacker picks

My whole feeling about Smith depend on the game Sunday. If we beat the panties and make the playoffs then, Smitty and TD stay

I know he has missed bad in years past but the Julio move was epic and paying off large

He has no talent on defense.. anyone thats playing is average at best. Thats just fact right now. Can they get bettee? Absolutely, but where we stand now he has put most if not almost all his resources on offense.

He brings in a grea th DC only to hamd tie him with no talent. Like brian billick said, nolan is running out of tricks. Theres only so much a coach can hide before the NFL exploits you, this is what we have been seeing the last two yrs.

TD did bring talent to this team since 08, but he missed on A LOT of guys as well.. which has put us in this situation now in a way.

Coaching is also to blame this season, but the lack of talent this team has or had is evident to last yrs list of injuries.

Excellent post. He failed miserably trying to build a front seven and whiffed pretty badly on an Oline as well. He should have been fired in January.

Having a few picks come in as projected starters only to be hurt at every turn has put us back. When continuity is an issue, its tough for coordinators to scheme and build. We have played with ure for a few years, playing good enough to win. That made us conservative and lackadaisical. Hopefullyvthey will keep this new fire. Worst case we go into the off season with some momentum. This off season will be one of great change.

But would there be as much criticism if

1) mass was given a fair amount of snaps

2) Kroy wasn't obviously favored, even when he's struggling

3) we didn't play our DBs 10 yards of on 3rd and 7

4) we actually ran a formation that matched the personnel we have (ie 3-4 with Hag/Solail/Jackson)

5) Playmakers like Weatherspoon and Moore stayed healthy and on the field

you see my point....the question to be determined is do we have pieces that perform poorly because of talent levels or because we dont use them correctly? One is onTD the other on coaches. From the rants here about Mass, BBdB, Kroy and 3-4/4-3 Hybrid schemes, I gotta lean coaches. The next question then would be can we get the RIGHT coach(es) in here not just shiny and new coaches for the sake of change.

Is the main problem coaching or lack of talent? Mike Tice is doing a great job, the others not so much. Why does it take forever for young players to see playing time? Earn playing time at practice ok,but when you are last in the league in defense something has to change.TD has had some homeruns and some strikeouts, also mismanaged a few contracts .......why take a chance ? Unless we win the division and at least one playoff game , clean house , hit the reset button, new GM, new head coach.

The only thing I'll say in TD's defense is he's not the one keeping what could be potential stars on the bench so Biermann and other washed up vets see playing time. He's not the best GM, but certainly not the worst either. Been re-watching some of the Hard Knocks episodes on my DVR and it seems like TD is pretty much going by Smitty's lead as far as what he wants to do with players (according to what's been seen on the show). I'd love it if they would get rid of the Jacksonville pipeline though.

TD absolutely sucks and deserves to be fired if nothing else due to lack of defensive talent and no pass rush.

All of the great teams in the NFL trade back and stockpile picks. TD gives away all of our draft picks, sometimes it works out, most of the time it doesn't.

Great teams like Seattle who traded a 1st and 3rd for a WR they traded for nothing a year later?

The Pats haven't won jack crap since they started stock piling picks. Imagine if they traded up for Julio tho.

So why arent we 8-6? Let me guess..The Coach? If so, who's responsible for keeping a lame duck Coach around, knowing good and darn well we've peaked under Smitty? If we couldnt win with Smith in 2010, and 2012, what in the heck makes him think we can win with him now? With that said, Go Falcons!!

Besides injuries, TD is the main reason this team is having problems. He gives coaches mediocre talent and wants them to compete against actual NFL caliber starters. He should have been fired after last season, after everyone realized we had no depth on the team at all. That is his fault.

We had good depth at center that Smith refused to play for the longest time

That's just one position. And Konz is so horrible that anyone we put in at the time would have been a upgrade. Plus, Stone is pretty good this year so maybe our depth wasnt good it was just so bad anyone who filled in made it look like an improvment.

Our depth definitely needed improvement. TD is not without blame, but Smith deserves more imo

Funny how at times we'll play our depth and look better, then play the starters and look worse. That's a coaching problem
