Kevin Patra On The Falcons Run Game

"The Falcons haven't had a 100-yard rusher in 25 straight games (Michael Turner, Week 9, 2012 vs Dallas, 102 yards). At what point does Mike Smith give Devonta Freeman a legit shot as an every-down back? Otherwise, just give up on the ground game and air it out every play, because Steven Jackson isn't getting it done."

Nothing new here, just figured I'd post the obvious.

Its not the RBs.. its the line thats blocking for them.. they just are not getting the job done. The holes they open up close as soon as the RB gets back to the LOS

We need better blockers up front

The counter argument could be made that we're not putting a back in that can get to the hole quick enough. A slow back with a weak line is a bad idea.

Running game is a critical need. ...our coaches are clueless. ..oh well maybe next year

At this point, I'd welcome Mularkey back over the clowns we have. At least he could put together a run game and some decent PA. His run game seemed simple as well. Nothing complicated for this line...

While I do think we'd be better off giving carries to Freeman and Quizz over SJax it's more the line than anything. Been saying it since 2012 when people were trashing Turner and assumed we'd be fine with a younger upgrade. Same reason talk of Ray Rice or another RB doesn't solve our issue. Until we get tougher on the LOS it'll basically be the same story.

Dirk Koetter has transformed the offense into a finesse passing team. Micheal Turner successfully ran behind a fullback(Ovie)for many years but now we rarely use a fullback.

It seems we use the FB in the pass game more than runs. What's the point? Might as well have a 2 RB system if that's the goal..

Exactly,

We may not have the best backs in the league but we should be able to run the ball more effectively. The way the backs are used and the general scheme is flawed.

Hard to break anything with 5 carries a game

just like its hard for sjax to get in rhythm and wear down defenses with 12 carries a game...we run the ball half as much as we throw it...the Oline doesn't get in rhythm to run block and they aren't good enough to pass block....NONE of the guys are getting put into position to be successful....everyone is saying that sjax is eating up the carries, he only gets 12 a game.
