monson007
Firing Smith does not fix the problems this team has, rather on the contrary it actually compounds the problem if it were to happen. The Falcons can win this division still and you as fans should be pulling for them.My big question to all of you is this? What great available coach out there would "WANT" to come to Atlanta? I really don't see any big names out there just salivating to get to coach "ATLANTA". It's not like the city is some great cultural utopia or even a nice place to raise a family. It is not a glamour job that the cream of the crop coaches want to be in, nor is it the biggest television market. It is not like the roster is loaded with tons of talent. If Atlanta fires Smith and hires someone else I guarantee you it will be a complete nobody or it will be someone that just wants to coach like Wade Phillips. There you go you back stabbing musterd seeds without faith. Go dry up on a rock like you usually do. When the new coach arrives I am sure you will be there to put a knife in his back also!

Cali_Falcon_1184
Firing Mike Smith at this moment is not going to happen right now. Mike Smith has earned the right to at least finish out this season with what he has accomplished with his team since 2008. Mike Smith does need to be fired after this season and the Lions game and Browns game pretty much guaranteed his departure. The fans have called for his head after the 2012 playoffs collapse and last season and this season pretty much tip the scale in favor of the fans who wanted him out. I supported Smitty and have nothing but appreciation for what he accomplished with us during his tenure but it is time for the Falcons to get a real coach. A coach that will continue to step on the gas when you are up 17pts at half-time, a coach that will not go conservative and have games end closer than it should have been. The fans did not put a knife in Smitty's back, Smith's failures caused the fans to turn on him. Last year he got a pass by most of the fan base and by Blank due to injuries this year we have Julio, Roddy, S-Jax, and added pieces to the defense that was of his choosing and where are we at, we have a losing record for the second consecutive year. As far as your coaching question, Blank surprised us when he hired Smith, we didn't know who Smith was except for the fact that he was the Jacksonville Defensive Coordinator. Blank and the front office will find us a head coach it might be somebody with a great coaching pedigree or it might be somebody out of nowhere like the Smitty hire. Keith 3:16
Well we now know Monson007 is some how related to Smith.

First of all, just a mediocre coach would have us at 6-5 right now. Secondly, how are you related to Mike Smith? Is that you Brian?

That coach just doesn't need to be Smith. Perhaps you want substandard results. I don't.
Silvoxx
No one is saying we want bill belicheck. We just want someone that doesn't lose us games. Or a "defensive" coach that actually improves the defense.
Beast-N-Da-Sheetz
Well you go ahead and remain loyal to an incompetent coach who already has one foot out the door, while I and the rest of the "back stabbing" fans remain loyal to this TEAM.I hope you and your loyalty follow him to Jacksonville next year too. Here I'll jump start the campaign for ya. GO JAGUARS 2015!!!

DonDaLuvMaker
Great coaches? Most of the great coaches are either very old or dead.Neither Cowher nor Gruden are what you call "great coaches", don't want them either. The Falcons can bring in a new coach with a new direction for this team and go from there. Those players were amazing. The coaches were simply lucky to be in that position. It's simply kids or newbie fans or idiots who think those coaches are great. DonDaLuvMaker
To the OP.The only reason why the Falcons are still in playoff contention this late into the season, is because the entire NFC South sucks. That is nothing to be proud of. So far, the Falcons have not beaten anyone outside of this awful division.
Guest fibonacci
My old arse is about too show when i start posting about old coaches. Also i bet these guy who think those coaches are great. Meaning we would be up 3+ games in this division. And we wouldn't be scared about who we play in the playoffs.

Andy2
First off, i don't believe you are a falcon fan. Now, apparently you are the only one left that hasn't figured out why our team has underachieved the last few years. 1)playing abraham in the fourth quarter of a meaningless game that quite possibly cost us a superbowl because of his injury in 2012 2)Smith's call to go for it on fourth and one from our own 29 against the saints in overtime in 2011 that cost us a chance to take the division. 3)and the biggest of all. Giving up to huge leads in the playoffs in 2012 because he doesn't know how to make adjustments during the game. not to mention all the big leads we've give up this year for the same reason. Now, i'll take my chances with a new coach. Sometimes you have to take two steps back before you can move forward. If thats what we have to do then i'm all for it. Seeing Smith continue to wreck this team is not an option for me.
