Ugly Win: Battle Of The Inept

the three 3-and-outs in the third and fourth quarter just killed me. I don't understand why we can't play a four quarter game, and why they keep handing the ball to SJAX who all he could do is fall forward for 2 yards? Honestly the guy is toast. He is a specimen, but has lost a full step in hitting the what little gaps we create. Freeman is a much better choice.

I find it hard to believe that with all the coaches and so called geniouses we couldn't do something less predictable on 1st down than Jackson for 2 yards then Ryan dump pass--hel I can see the offensive play from my sofa so yo know the Panties knew what was coming.

I think Koetter is a boob at times. There is a lot of talent on the field and he is confused how to use it. We need to ban all Falcons from ever going to Jacksonville and encourage them to go to places like Arizona or Cincinnati.

A lot I agree with, but sjax has averaged nearly 4 yards per carry for the season....behind a very weak line....same reason we don't go downfield. Till we get the online fixed....that's about all we have. If we get 2 yards on 1st and 2nd, that's 3rd and 6... We should be able to get that with Julio and Roddy, but we gotta have time

No way I'm apologising for this thread that was the ugliest win ever--we fell into a hole that happened to work for us---you will see, while everyone is celebrating our 1st place status the bottom has completely falling out

Cleveland will destroy us unfortunately, "so you get what we had here the last week, well he gets what he wants. I don't like ths anymore than you"

There seems to be a sense of delusion that overcomes many of you every time the falcons win. Are some of you really that incapable of realizing that win was horrible. Yes a horrible win. A little perspective would allow you to see that, had we been playing any average team, we would have lost. We had our usual ineptitude in the second half of the game. Mixed in with our usual head coach making utterly ridiculous decisions. They tried to do everything to lose the game. Just as they do all other games. Most good teams, when we give them the opportunity to seize the game in the second half, take advantage of the opportunity. Same thing has been occurring throughout smiths time here. So, yes, a win is nice, but there was nothing nice about the way the team played or about the way the team was coached.

Falconsrage nailed it.

While winning is better than losing and Falcons are technically in first place with a chance to go to playoffs - the bottom line is this team sucks.

Falcons won because the Panthers are also a horrible team. To sit there and watch a 16-3 lead evaporate in the 4th quarter is "Smittyball" over and over and over again - it is like a movie we have watched 100 times. Sometimes we win the games after blowing the lead and sometimes we lose them - but we consistently blow the leads. You never hear any frustration from Mike Smith after blowing these leads - if we win by one point after blowing a 20pt lead he is happy. You think the great NFL and college coaches are happy in those circumstances? You think Nick Saban and Bill Belicheck are all sunshine and Roses?

Even in the win, Mike Smith confirms his need to be fired.

Did they change the rules on the NFL draft about draft seeding?

I know at one point - if say a team was 7-9 and made the playoffs - and maybe that team had the 13th worst record - they still might pick 20th because they made the playoffs. Seems like maybe this rule changed but not sure. anybody know?

It would suck for us to make the playoffs at 7-9, go to Arizona, get blown out 34-0 and then drop 7 spots in the draft for our troubles.

Dawg,

If we make the playoff then we don't travel. We play at home and get blown

I know that - I am talking about draft seeding. In the past, if you made the playoffs, you could pick no higher than 20th - even if there were not 19 teams with worse records than you. Capeche'?

Ok well lets just lose out then because the draft has always solved all of our problems.

We won.

Be happy for a win. They're HARD to come by in today's NFL.

This morning, ask the Manning brothers, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, and a few others.

The NFL is not some video game where everything goes according to some script devised by a Geek in his mother's basement.

Rules for determining draft order[edit]

The selection order is based on each team's win-loss record in the previous season and whether the team reached the playoffs. Teams that did not reach the playoffs the previous season are ranked in reverse order of their records (so the team with the fewest wins is awarded the first selection). Ties between teams with identical records are determined by the following tiebreakers (in order):[56]

  1. Strength of schedule, which is the combined win-loss record for all 16 of the team's opponents in the previous season (ties count as a half win and half loss). The team with the lower strength of schedule (i.e. their opponents compiled fewer wins) is granted the earlier pick in round one.
  2. Division tiebreakers (if the teams are in the same division).
  3. Conference tiebreakers (if the teams are in the same conference).
  4. Coin flip(s), which occur(s) at the pre-draft NFL Combine.

Teams that reached the playoffs the previous season are then slotted in the order in which they were eliminated as indicated in the table below. Within each tier, the slotting is determined as above (i.e. worst record picks first and the same tiebreakers apply).[56]

You would think that after 5 straight lost that people would be grateful for any kind of win.

After 4 sacks last week Mike Smith was quoted as saying "we still

left some meat on the bone". You have Smitty wrong he wants to

dominate teams. Koetter reminds me of a guy with a fancy new sports car

who is grinding his gears when he shifts.

I am glad that I missed most of the game, and here is why:

The Falcons are going to play a home game against a Cleveland Browns team that really isn't anywhere near as good as their record, and they will do so with a very good chance to be alone in first place at the end of the day.

And what happened yesterday want matter one bit once the game starts except for the fact it was a win. That will still matter.
