Hear him at noon ET on PFT Live."ProFootballTalk just tweeted this. Just thought I would share for you guys. I'm not sure how many of you like Bowles, but he's caught my interest by how that defense has been performing with all of those injuries. Sheldon Cooper
I have reservations about Bowles. I like tried and true Jim Harbaugh, but if we are going coordinator, Sean McDermott is my choice. We have no idea what type of prescence these guys have with the players as an authority figure aside from Harbaugh. I like what McDermott has done with a defense that is not exactly overflowing with talent. He is from the Jimmy Johnson tree that was very successful on defense a lot of years. Sheldon Cooper
We need a coach that can do a lot with a little bit on defense as he adds his guys that can do what he is trying to do. If Keuchly and Lotuleli are his kinda guys, he is my kinda HC.

Even Rex Ryan isn't totally bad. I live in NY and see all the Jets games. He is one of, if not the best defensive mind in all of football. A couple lost pieces from that group has turned Carolina into one of the worst defenses in the league this year. On the other side, Todd Bowles has lost his 6 best defensive players at various points this season....he's lost 4 or 5 of them for the season (or long periods of time). He has responded by coaching Arizona to a Top 10 defensive performance. This year, Bowles has done the best job I've seen a coordinator do in quite some time. All of the stuff you say about demeanor and player interaction is true....but its not anything we can ever know. All we can do is go forward on the available info. And the available info paints a **** of a picture for Todd Bowles.

I also believe that Dan Quinn would be a good choice. Can't really understand the logic of those who want to shy away from defensive coordinators because of Smith and Mora. Every coach is different. They aren't formed from the same molds.

They aren't formed from the same molds.Quinn's an interesting guy that I'm a bit wary on given their struggles this year. As of last week, Seattle's pass rush was literally almost exactly as ineffective as ours. They lost some depth guys but they kept all of their big guns....but still aren't getting there. Thats a bit concerning.I'm just very cautious of defensive or offensive coordinators who coach under HCs that are heavily involved in their philosophies. Pete Carroll has sort of always been very good at putting together great secondary play and quality defensive performance. Not to say Quinn isn't a good coach....but what if Carroll is the magic there?I was sort of iffy on Bowles too after Ray Horton left. Bowles has answered those questions by having a great year last year, losing all of his players and still having a great year this year. But I totally agree with the sentiment that we shouldnt give a **** whether our next HC is an offensive or defensive guy. Just find the right type of guy.
