MSalmon
http://mmqb.si.com/2013/09/17/stanford-cardinal-peter-king/I simply love his offensive philosophy. Protect the QB, run ball, and probe the defensesAnother link http://espn.go.com/blog/stanford-football/post/_/id/908/shaw-stanford-striking-a-balanceI think matt Ryan would flourish under Shaw, and his offense compliments a defense. Rests it.Thoughts?

MSalmon
Not a fan of stanfords offense. A lot of running and low scoring games . We need a coach who can maximize Ryan's abilityIt would seem that way, unless you look at Shaw with luck at QB. Shaw does a masterful job of adjusting to his QBs talent level and ability. When luck was there he had much more freedom to air it out and the offense was more open. That said, a heavy dose of running and pass protection was still at the core of Shaws philosophy. He's a Walsh guy (played under hamza) who utilizes TEs and FBs and uses the short pass as well as establishes the run to set up play action. Ryan would do great under him and probably take less hits

Very few has successWhile you are right, at the same time Jim Harbaugh has had tons of success. Chip Kelly has done pretty well. It can definitely be done. I would have no problem with bringing in a college coach. Especially if he puts a premium on protecting our franchise QB.

DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
If we're looking at the college ranks, thats probably who I would want.Could extend the rebuilding process though.
WOR
I like Shaw but I think you might get the same conservative mindset of Smitty after a while. The one thing I like about BCS college coaches is that they are programmed to step on teams throats.
etherdome
I like the sound of Shaw, but let's take care of first things first. Blank has to decide whether he wants to keep his GM. That decision will pretty much take care of everything else.

niels petersen
He seems to have a certain philosophy, and an identity as a coach. And he seems to have confidence in his approach and offensive systems.. All these things aree traits we ahve been lacking with Smith.I like it. I don't know if he's my pick for the job just yet, but I surely would not be unhappy if we went the Shaw route..

The one thing I like about BCS college coaches is that they are programmed to step on teams throats.Shaw isn't conservative. He allowed Luck to air the ball out when he was there, while still committing to the run with Stephan Taylor during the time. It was a great blend of pass and run in their offense. Kevin Hogan is not nearly as good as Luck, so that is why Stanford runs more now. We were still conservative. I'm not saying he is overly conservative like Smith has become, but he is a conservative coach. I'm talking coaching decisions. Not scheme. We need a coach who can maximize Ryan's abilityRyan's ability is best when coupled with a good, heavy run game. Ryan isn't an air it out all day type of guy. truth..
You're more patient than most around here.I wouldnt say Im patient. More like, honest. And Id rather see a team built right than watch a team continue to **** on itself because it thinks its "one guy away" and all that. We need to completely overhaul the roster. we have some nice young pieces to build around and those pieces are versatile enough that we can take this thing whereever we wanna go with it

Drew brees is the only pocket QB I can think of that has succeeded in an offense that doesn't have a true run game. The reasons Rodgers and luck succeed is because they are a threat to run and can turn nothing into something. Ryan is never going to be that guy. Thats the biggest difference no-one talks about.
