I've said this before, and you can verify it several times during the game if you watch the All 22. Our WR's are playing some bad football, rarely getting open, bad routes, then when the ball finally gets to them, drops and even not expecting to get targeted, I forget the exact play.

They did not run bad routes there......

Had Ryan had time there he could have hit Hester in stride for a TD he ran a GREAT route and shook the corner out of his shoes....Ryan simply did not have time for the route to develop... that actually was a good route combo.because he could have had his choice of Hester streaking down the sideline or Roddy deep on the left third if the deep safety followed Hester.

We simply did not block well enough for the play to develop.

So to answer the OP... either Hester or Roddy had blocking been there,

They were not just thinking first down,,,,, they were thinking big play.

I think Hester simply broke off his route on that play... That didn't look planned at all and if it was then Dirk is an idiot for expecting Ryan to have that much time to let a route develop. Ryan was getting stomped the entire game.

I dunno he turned up the field really quick...it looks like an option route that DK likes to use.

Ether way he was open and Roddy would have been as well if the deep safety decided to follow Hester.

And if that is the case I do not mind the call at all they were showing confidence in the players upfront that in hind site was misplaced

Make that call on any down other than 4th and I would be happy. But, there isn't much you can do on 4th and long.

Ehh it was 4th and 7...not super long.,,,, had we blocked it better we had the chance for a big play............ I do not mind the call at all.

We just have to get the communication on the line down pat........ we can not afford many more breakdowns like the one shown above.

Dumervile, Suggs and Mosley blitzing and the Falcons haven't been able to pick up one all game. 7 yards is a mile with this O-line and THAT defense.

That free safety was turning upfield to Hester at the end of the clip. Theres a good chance hester would've been covered enough to where he dropped that or it went out of bounds. I don't like seeing 3 recievers on that side of the field, those type of plays are deisnged to drag the defense to one side of the field and leave the RB 1 on 1 for the checkdown. Freeman is the only back we have (maybe rodgers)that can beat 1 on 1s in those kind of situations tho. Typically Kutty calls that play and we get a yard or 3, never 7.

I'd rather an INT than a sack on 4th down. Better to take a chance than to hold it and get nothing. Plus the difference between a sack and a pick could be 20+ yards on from the spot the turnover(on downs) happens. Even if it turns into a pick 6, the game is over without that conversion anyway. Really no excuse not to let it fly IMO.

Ryan misjudged how quickly he was under duress. He was trying to buy time and I respect that. If he had 1 more seconds that was an easy first down

I agree. Still. Throw the damm ball. There's a 10-15% chance it's completed and we pick up the first if he gave somebody a chance. There's literally 0% chance of us picking up a first down by taking a sack. Even if it was a terrible interception, at least we/he/they could say he tried.

I would've liked to have seen that too, then again I'd rather my Quarter back survive too. Him curling up when he did was the only defense he had and still took a nasty hit.

Yeah he may have bailed to take hester.........which would have left Roddy wide open for a 20+ yard gain

It honestly is a great route combo if we could have blocked it up

Thank you for this. I was at the game way up top at the 50 yd line. Those are my favorite seats because I see the whole play develop like All-22 film. I saw this type of thing all game long. He had no one to throw to and no time to do it. He probably missed 2 throws that game. I'm sitting next to Ravens fans asking them "what else can he do?" They would just and shake their heads and shrug.
