A Little Help From My Uk Falcon Fans .... Information Needed

Tandy

The London package I purchased promised our ground transportation plus a 72 hour Hop On Hop Off pass - but we have now been told we won't be getting that - and I'm having a little difficulty figuring out the best method for getting to the game on Sunday.

I read about an Oyster card that we can get - which we can prepay for most of the public transit - either train or bus and which we can use for any travel we need.

We will be coming in to Heathrow airport - does anyone know where we can get the Oyster card - and advise if that is the best bet for our transportation needs?

I've been trying to map out the best way to get to the stadium on Sunday - but Google map has me totally baffled as to what type of transportation is available. We're staying at a hotel on Stockley Road - Drayton, London. Can anyone tell me the best way to find what bus/train or other transportation we should take to get to the stadium? Maybe direct me to a web site?

Also, is it ok to bring a small umbrella to Wembley in case it rains? Is the clear plastic bag rule in place there when you go to the games? What are we allowed to bring in to the stadium?

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Also, if you have a smart phone then download one of the London tube apps and make a note beforehand of where you want to go to and from and which trains are required.

There is a tube station at Wembley, so that's not an issue. The transport is easy in terms of getting to and from the stadium and there will be plenty of people going to the same place.

I would use the tube/underground to get to the game and get around the city in general. As an out of towner I find it a lot easier than using the buses. IIRC it is about 30 mins from central London. Wembley Park Station is a few minutes from the stadium, and the pre-game tailgate area is between the two. You can get to it on either the grey (jubilee) or purple (metropolitan) line.

I would get an Oyster card, and put a bit more money on it than you think you will need. That will save you from having to keep topping it up, and you can cash it in to get any remaining money back at the end. There will be a ticket station at the the station in Heathrow where you can buy the card and cash it in. You can use the oyster card on the underground and buses. The Oyster card fares are significantly cheaper than paying cash and each day it charges you the minimum fare that you could have paid for the journeys you make' if it would have been cheaper to buy a daily travel pass. For example, if you make 10 journeys per day, the won't charge you 10 single fares. They they will only charge you the cost of a daily travel pass (which allows you to make unlimited journeys for a fixed cost).

I see that your hotel is close to the airport, in zone 5 of the tube. The underground journey from the tube station at Heathrow to Wembley Park is just under 70 minutes according to my journey planner. The easiest route is to take the blue (picadilly) line to Green Park Station and change at Green Park on to a northbound train on the Grey Jubillee line - which will take you direct to Wembley Park Station.

From zone 5 on the tube:-

a single journey in to Central London is £4.60 at peak times, and £3.00 non-peak (with oyster card)

A day pass for zones 1-5 is £7.90 if all journey are off peak (weekends are off-peak) and £17 if travelling at peak times.

A weekly travel pass for zones 1-5 is £53.40 [this could be the cheapest option, but probably only if you are staying for a whole week and making a lot of journeys at peak times]

** if you buy an Oyster card rather than a weekly travel pass, the Oyster card won't limit your weekly spend to £53.40**

Hi, hopefully I can help - how long are you staying for as there's a few options...

Oh and for the bag / gameday related questions:

Thank you everyone! The link helped a lot for the bag policy - couldn't locate it. It didn't say whether we could bring an umbrella in - but I did see it's ok at Wembley - so I'm assuming it's ok. We can take them to the Dome. I will definitely be getting an Oyster card when I get there.

So, UKFalc, we need to get back to the airport to catch the tube. Thanks for the route - I'm going to print it. I'm also going to put the app on my phone - although I'll only be using my phone where I have wi-fi available to avoid major cellular charges.

You guys are the best! Now - tell me your favorite food place - you know - the ones the locals favor - not the tourist trap joints tongue.png I'm pumped for this trip - want to sample the local flavors and enjoy the culture.

I already signed up for the NFL cruise which will have Falcon Alumni and Cheerleaders and includes a ride on the London Eye before the cruise - I'm excited for that. Plus there is supposed to be an after party with some of our players in attendance - which I'm definitely going to.

I am so excited I can hardly wait. I sure hope our Birds show up to play - and give a fight - win or lose!

Rise Up!

I considered the cruise, but wasn't 100% sure that I could get to the London Eye by 6pm.

The Saturday event at a Trafalgar Square is a must. Apparently our whole team is going to be there - which prompted one British TV presenter to comment that it will be the first time that our defence shows up anywhere this year.

I have no idea about the best food joints - I usually end up in a McD's or some other fast food joint!

Ouch! That defense remark hits home. I will be there.

Tandy, I envy you. I hope you have a great time.

I was in London, with the kids, a few years ago. Let me tell you, it is very expensive. We found a couple of franchise eateries that were reasonable, fresh and good. I just checked and found that one of them is out of business. So, I only have one for you.

Wagamama: These are asian/Japanese restaurants with a flare. You eat at long tables in a modern and informal setting. It's tough to please my entire family, but these places did the trick.

I like Indian food, and London has the best I have ever eaten (better than NYC). You might want to go this route.

I don't know what our budget is, but I do know that London has some incredible high-end places. You won't have trouble finding them. If you have a modest budget, check out this web site for some ideas:

I am sure that you will have a blast. Enjoy.

Tandy, we will be taking the tube for everything. Did not get an Oyster card in advance so will pick one up when we arrive at LHR. From what I've been told and researched, it works just like MARTA's Breeze card. If you have money left on it, I understand you can get a refund at LHR on your way out so leave enough time if it is worth it

Goodness, what happened to your package transportation...)-:

Sorry to hear about that.

I will send you a separate email as I've been trying to find out about activities put together by or for groups from here for Friday or Saturday night.

Yes, it is similar.
