BirdWeisErrr_2
Mike Smith was hired January 23rd 2008 and Thomas Dimitroff was hired January 13th 2008.So, in just 10 days Dimitroff took over GM of the Falcons and hired a Head Coach? How, in only 10 days, did he manage to pull it off? Arthur Blank. There is no way, in only 10 days, Dimitroff had time to do everything that needed to be done to hire a new Head Coach. So, IMO, Blank hired Dimitroff with the understanding that Mike Smith would be the HC. Therefore, again IMO, Dimitroff has never had his own HC. An established GM would have never agreed to do that. However, Dimitroff saw an opportunity and although it came with strings attached jumped on it. Dimitroff deserves a chance to pick his own guy before he is fired as GM. DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
I agree that he should be allowed to give it another go.I don't think it was a mistake to hire Mike Smith or that Mike Smith has been a bad coach. In time, we'll look back fondly on the Mike Smith era, IMO.But given where we are and what we're seeing from this team, I think its clear that Mike has to go. It's unfortunate but I think it has to happen.

Da_Truth
TD hired Smitty so fast his latte was still hot.No he didn't...Smitty was already hired when Arthur and McKay finally hired Dimitroff. I remembered the process exactly. TD was--and is--nothing but a puppet boy, that had no business being hired as a GM. Arthur and McKay wanted someone they could keep under their thumb. You think TD was really going to hire another GM after Arthur said "You have the final hire approval for the HC Thomas". Yeah right.

I don't know what more proof you need.
Tuggle'2
Why does the 10 day time frame seem so out of place? Sounds right to me. I am sure he already had a short list and just went from there.

I don't know what more proof you need. You're reading into it. All it says is that Ryan was interviewed once, before TD was hired and that they liked him, and that TD would sit in on the second interview. Anything else is speculation.Ryan, 45, is said to have made a very favorable impression in his first meeting with Atlanta owner Arthur Blank and team president Rich McKay. But Dimitroff was hired by Blank on Saturday to oversee the football operation, and he will have considerable input into the coaching decision, so he now represents a wild card in the search process. trubirdfan4life
Smitty was already settled as coach, before td got here. When td was hired, there was lots of airplay about td because of the webcam interview and the mike vick situation and the bobby petrino fiasco. In his interviews he said that smith had already been interviewed and when he talked to him about football philosophy and team building, they clicked perfectly and talked for hours and thought that they could work well together.Td endorsed smith but he was already the choice of the falcons. trubirdfan4life
They're not going to read that, they're too busy revising history so it suits their baseless supposition.rex ryan wasnt hired at that time because blank was very aware of the public perception of the falcons after all the crap of the 2006 and 2007 seasons...rex was a wild card and blank wanted someone to right the ship...in retrospect, it was a very good move. Now, image isnt an issue, winning is....rex has been humbled in ny and blank now sees he needs a little nasty...could be a nice marriage. trubirdfan4life
No. When interviewing, Arthur Blank likely asked TD, ok, what would you do with the Falcons. TD said, I'll hire a guy like Smith.you say this even though smith was interviewed before td?
