Godzilla1985
I got passed yesterday in the press conference when ****** I mean smitty was asked about one of the big plays our d gave up and said that (paraphrasing) "if the fans and media knew the play call then he would address specifics otherwise they don't know what they are talking about." etherdome
"ah-ficient" We need to be efficient. How so? Does that mean that we have to plot the quickest arc towards a tackle? Do we now require the use of calculus to play the game? Just what does Smitty mean by "ah-ficient"? To borrow a term from the Princess Bride, I don't think that means what he thinks it means.Honestly, I have never been impressed with Smitty's ability to communicate on TV. I have, at times, thought that he is not very intelligent. That thought is perpetuated when he consistently recognizes problems after the fact. All of these press conference mantras are nothing more than Smitty publicly recognizing what we all have known for quite some time.Smitty's teams do not improve. They continue to have problems tackling. They continue to have problems in short yardage situations. They continue to allow teams to convert third-and-longs. They continue to give Matt Ryan less than three seconds to scan the field. I can go on, but what's the point? We are stuck with this mess for another season. The window of opportunity continues to close on the Ryan years. And, since Tommy drafts for needs (I should state it Tommy's way: Needs-based), we will not draft the next starting QB until we need one. And that, my friends will pretty much guarantee that the team will flounder for several seasons before another window of opportunity presents itself. DerrtyBirdGirl
"our team is very resilient""we've got to play better...we've got to coach better...and that starts with me" "we didn't execute...""...you can't win ballgames when you play like that""I thought we had a good week of practice...""I felt our team was very prepared" (really!?)"we were not able to get anything going offensively...."and of course the usual...."gotta tip your hat.." This means nothing but another excuse to me, but now he is saying that if he can't fix the problem, no fan has any knowledge higher than him that would help this team. Talk about high standards for a low piece of garbage

Deadmeat
After reading this thread, I thought about another NFL team that I watched a bit of the press conference. To me they all sound the same. Every once in a while you get a "they are who we thought they were" or "Playoffs?!?!?" presser, but, most of the time they are not helpful and frustrating to watch. The coach will RARELY say we are a terrible team and won't win another game this season. That's why I usually don't watch press conferences after games.See if you can guess what team forum I got this from. Meassage board quote: "So sick and tired of hearing the same excuses week after week. It's always, we've got to execute, we're doing things right, we just have to play better. No kidding. How about you coach better. How about you motivate better. How about you get a little more amped up when the team is playing awful and let them know it. Nothing burns me more than when they are getting destroyed and playing like a high school pick up team and COACH is just standing there in a daze rather than putting the team in it's place. Where's the intensity? Nowhere, and it shows in the lazy playing and the sloppiness that is the YYYYY of today. This team plays like a poorly coached group of players who are not only unsure of themselves, but the people calling the shots. Time for a rehaul in YYYYYYY."I'll confirm the team later. autigerfan
At the end of the day it doesn't matter that we hate his pressers. What it comes down to is wins and losses and right now we have a right to be upset with the product on the field.I hope that Smith is showing more fire in the locker room than he is displaying in the press conferences however. Deadmeat
Nono, thanks for taking a guess. The answer is this was a post on the Pittsburgh Steelers forum about Mike Tomlin. Coaches around the league are basically the same in press conferences. Coaches will never say what we want to hear about their teams and their own performance short of the cliche. As stated above. Press conference doesn't matter as long as you can put up wins. We could win and we could still hate the press conference, but, at least we won.
