The Offensive Line Is The Worst Ever...but

Recommended Posts

I Agree KOG.

However, I'm starting to think I just don't understand the subtle nuances of football enough to make a statement on the matter at all.

  • I don't understand how It's Nolans fault we drop DEs into coverage, when we did that with Abe before he showed up.
  • I don't understand how We have all our defensive talent at the line and in the secondary but, design defenses that leave 2 LBs to cover the middle and running lanes when they are the players needed the most help.
  • I don't understand how we have an insane offense but, our receivers can't get open except for a rare occasion, even with a healthy line.
  • I don't understand how fast RBs (like Freeman) start to slowdown as soon as they get on the field. (guy was crazy fast in preseason but now looks like quizz or MT33 at the end, IE: slowing down looking for holes.
  • I don't understand how for years Tony and Roddy were Matt's only targets yet now that we spread the ball out the only play we can muster is that stupid JJ toss to the sideline that gets shut down for a loss every time they attempt it.
  • I don't understand how the statement "getting antone more involved" results in less snaps or snaps that don't use his talents.
  • I don't understand how Matt throws into double/tripple coverage for a short pass when a reciever in the same direct line of sight is running down the field wide open.
  • I don't understand how sacred cows somehow become sacred again once the season starts.
  • I don't understand how men who make Millions can't think outside the box and try something new. Just show me something guys It's less about it working or not working than it is about showing some dang fight (coaches)!

Sad that watching this team makes me wonder if I even know what football is. Thank goodness for the Panthers/Cowboys/Chargers.

Thought Koetter's O looked really good when the Oline was healthy, for the 8 quarters that actually happened. Think that White, Matthews and Blalock are playing hurt and it shows, throw in HD missing games, Hawley and Holmes too.

Also think that Koetter's O looks much better without multiple drops.

Don't think Koetter is a great OC, don't think he's the primary problem with the O either.

Bravo!!!!!!!

Now that you have your keyboard warmed up, would you please list the other approximate 99 issues this coaching staff has managed to create for themselves and their players. I beg you to; I will get to frustrated if I even got to #10.

Ummm have you seen rodgers, or foles play this year? Offenses crumble when they're typically missing more than 2 guys. I completely disagree with your opinion. What is he supposed to do with this line that was made up of mercenaries to begin with?

We need to get the run game going, but jackson is not a bell cow back and gunn and konz have been down right lmaoble.

Great post ODB, I don't know as much as some about offense...probably most. I just know I have seen Matt with time and still nothing. The guys are hurt, so what do you do? You adjust. Adversity is what coaching is for and all I hear is excuses about the OL. No clue why Nolan is doing that stuff, just as much his fault as anyone. Its kind of his MO. If he can't get a pass rush going early, he'll BBDB. Not sure why DL are in coverage. That's silly.

For all of you not understanding, we have had two OC's and DC's but it got worse when Koetter came in after his first good season. What's different? Think about it. The OL was NEVER that good to begin with, so what is different?

FTR Matt Ryan didn't have Julio his first few years either. He did have a true RB.

Pretty hard to find a rhythm on offense when your D can't get off the field.

This is true, and still when does it end? I have heard everything except the heart of things. "We won't need a good defense. We will drop 30+ points." That was all the rage until it stopped happening. The issue is everything from coaching to personnel. Cutesy drafts etc. This team is a pure mess whether you like something or not.

I agree with this, too.

TD - I actually understand a lot of the moves he's made, and I think he just tried to get what Smitty asked him to get. Not every pick or signing is gonna work out, that's just the reality of the game. I don't fault him completely as he's not the chef, just the guy who's doing the grocery shopping. However, he has made some awful moves that seem driven by his own ego... drafting Baker made sense but re-signing him did not, replacing Turner with SJax was a bad move, same with Osi for Abe.

Smitty - He's been given every excuse out there... injuries, new coordinators, new line coaches, new strength & conditioning coach... yet it's the same BS every year.

Koetter - Not awful, but would help to be more balanced... especially when the o-line is struggling & the passing game can't get into a rhythm. Gotta make the other team take A. Smith away, rather than doing them the favor of taking him away ourselves.

Nolan - I'm as confused as anyone else on what he's doing. I know he has little to work with, but he should still be scheming to the strengths of what is currently available to him rather than trying to force an obviously broken system.

Yeah but quite a few bashed me for sticking up for Holmes...LOL...and before the season started I was calling Hawley, serviceable and Raggedy-Andy (his being tossed like a rag doll).

The funnt thing is carimi, gunn, and konz are 10x worse. We need to draft another high pick ol to fix this ol. Dline needs so much work its funny, and its smitty and nolans faults pretty much.

You weren't wrong for backing Holmes up. He did a very good job. Carimi gave up 2 sacks in the same game as well as pressures. Holmes gave up a few pressures but EVERY tackle will do that.

I told a guy that was glad Holmes got hurt that I better see a SIGNIFICANT difference between Holmes and Carimi or I would blast his @ss all over the board. So far Carimi Has been worse but it's not even worth it. Hawley was the glue that held the whole thing together. Mad had lanes to step into the pocket. I haven't seen that guy say one word about Carimi's bad play or ANYBODY that was glad Holmes gothat hurt.

The Oline got much worse, Turner got old and fat, multiple injuries to key players.

The beside the point of the post. Its another agenda squab. Think first bro. 10 TD's 800 yds and 8 in the box. What is different? The OL was NEVER that good, so what's different? Also, if what you say is true, then why didn't we draft his replacement that year?

Turner had a lot of bad games in 2012. Why didn't they draft his replacement? Because of other more pressing needs, because they thought the 2012 Oline draft picks would help whoever was running the ball, because they thought SJax was a good fit, because they though Quiz was better than he is? not really sure.

Not sure how having the Oline getting much worse is beside the point. You asked what happened from 2012 to 2103. Oline got much worse, White and Jones missed half the snaps for the year, the D was a mess.

Carimi got HANDLED.....Holmes kept his man outside...Jake is struggling...but I'm good with that....he's learning.

The OL has never been all that great, so what has changed man? We made move after move and the OL hasn't done anything. I'll tell you what. Just because you have speed at WR and a good QB doesn't mean you don't plan for the worst. If the OL is THIS bad, its not just the personnel or the OL coach. Its way more and it starts at the top. The offense looks good when clicking, but we only click against suck defenses...why? Because the OL...? Nah, it has to be more than that. Personally I'm not buying it.

EDIT: How has those "more pressing needs" worked so far?
