Live Notes From The Game

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was at the game sitting on the 30 yd line 8th row back (good seats for a horrible game) - here is what I saw firsthand:

1. Cutler had time to bake a cake and throw - our best pressure came from Mass and Maponga IMO, worst came from that awful ******* 4-2-5 with Babs and Kroy at DE (what a genius move, Nolan, keep it up). Even when he was under pressure we were playing soft zone and half the time Bears receivers could've done hopscotch in the middle of the field before they ran into one of our guys.

2. People hating on Worrilow are ******* clueless. He was hitting people HARD and making stops at the line or for 2 yd gains, not to mention he clocked Cutler (my buddy who is a Bears fan yelled "OH **** NO" ... we all thought he was injured. Worrilow is the only player making consistent stops in our front 7 (BTW his sack wasn't a late hit at all that was a garbage call).

3. Our OL looked .... bad. I know Tice has turned things around, but ugh, I almost wanted them to wave a white flag in the 4th. Matt had literally 1 second or less to throw after the snap. He was under pressure a LOT.

4. Ishmael is our best DB outside of Trufant... enough said. Alford will be really good in another year or two. I think Southward needs some time but he could end up being solid as well. Bobby Mac makes plays occasionally but also gives too many of them up.

5. Hageman is going to be beastly in a year or two. People calling him a bust should get on a plane with the Worrilow haters and then crash it. He is just mentally young IMO, but my god he is gigantic in person and he scared Cutler a few times and batted down some passes (not to mention a sweet blocked extra point... don't see that too often).

________

My overall takeways:

- Nolan made his money off taking good defenses and making them better or keeping them good by being creative... the problem is that "creativity" is really smoke and mirrors that gets exposed pretty fast (see: the 2012 playoffs). I've said it 1000 times on here but the 4-2-5 is a defense for losers. No pass rush, not enough run stoppers, just a bunch of DBs standing around watching the QB make a sandwich and then burn us for a 30 yard pass. Our defense is garbage and Nolan's cute BS is not gonna make it any better.

- Mike Smith is losing this team if he hasn't already. They seemed defeated even from the get-go. I don't see grit on this team past a few players. I feel the biggest thing a HC can do for a team is establish a gameplan and motivate the team - Smitty has failed in both of those aspects.

- Koetter is a great OC in the same way that Nolan is a "great" DC. When Koetter has a good OL and 4 healthy receivers he will make magic happen... but so will **** near any other OC in the league.

IMO - fire Smitty NOW. Make Robiskie interim HC. End of the year fire Nolan and hire Rex Ryan. I'm tempted to give Koetter a pass this year but honestly - no. Fire him and make Robiskie OC once we find a new HC.

Fair enough. Not quite sure I'd go that way with Koetter but understand a clearout is needed.

This sparing Mass and Maponga will hurt us next season just as much as this. This 3DT in a 4-3/4-2-5 is BS. Mass has decent coverage when he dropped back on one occasion.

Props to Hageman for the blocked extra point.

Im cool with it all until the Robiskie as HC. I saw him on Hard Knocks and I just didnt get the HC vibe from him. Love him to death but I would probably take Tice since hes been there before and since he personifies exactly what we were preaching all year. Toughness and holding others accountable.

see where as tice to me looked overly cocky to me with a careless attitude that wouldnt suit being a headcoach. i dont know. i blame TD for lack of talent on d.

I think Robiskie would be good because he seems to turn even average receivers into good ones - he can motivate people and he is already our assistant head coach (found that out yesterday). He would only be interim HC till the end of the season IMO.
