JiveAF
This will be a long read, so if you want the summary, skip to the bottom.I've typed about 10 different sentences, and I've deleted them all because I couldn't figure out what to even type. I'm baffled. This season looked promising..We have a franchise QB, a franchise WR, with a reliable mentor. A #3 WR who put up #1 numbers last season, and Hester is explosive. We have a LT who's a rookie, but is showing promise. A newly signed RG who looks to be tough. A pretty good young CB tandem. A revamped, big, physical DLine..a head hunting Safety, a tackling machine at MLB..it looked promising.Looks can be deceiving. The only current Falcon players who should ONE HUNDRED % START on Defense next season are; Desmond Trufant, Worrilow, and Willy Mo. Trufant; because he's obviously not the problem. He's a very good corner, he's going through a little learning curves at times, but I've seen him multiple times go one on one with a WR and just pry the ball lose. He is not the problem.Worrilow; because the guy CAN tackle. He's FORCED to make tackles down field because NO ONE ELSE CAN. If not for him, we'd probably be giving up way more points than we are already.Mo; because he's the best S we have. He makes some bad angles, but he IS a motivator. He makes some plays when it counts, [and I don't think there will be a S in the draft better than him, or a FA]THE REST of the defense, CAN BE REPLACED. Will they, no. I also like Bartu I must say, he made some nice plays today. Of course there are some guys on our D who are good players, but look HORRIBLE because the rest of the players are playing terrfyingly terrible. Example; Soliai, Shembo, Bartu [like I mentioned] Mass [Doesn't he have like, all of our sacks this season?] ..maybe a few more? Lowery even? Biermann...[sIKE]my next point; GUYS WHO SHOULD ABSOLUTELY 100% NOT START, OR EVEN BE ON THIS TEAM NEXT SEASON ON DEFENSE.KROY BIERMANN. The guy is HORRIBLE. PERIOD.Osi: He was a good player. His time is up. Replace him, let's get younger. Linebackers: I don't even know who the problem is fellas, it seems as if we need a new LEADER on Defense at the LB spot..Worrilow is a good tackler at times, I don't know if it's the players around him, or HIM that is bad..but the LB corps as a whole, seems very pedestrian.---The jury is out on Alford. He's gotten burnt on several occasions, maybe he can improve? Or maybe he's like Chris Houston; Very fast, very athletic..but very inconsistent as an NFL Cornerback.---The fix?SAY BYE TO NOLAN.Look, these little puzzled looks that we are giving teams, ARE NOT WORKING ANY MORE. THEY HAVEN'T WORKED SINCE WEEK 2 OF THE 2012 SEASON AGAINST THE BRONCOS. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME IT WORKED. You can argue that Nolan doesn't have pieces to work with, but you can argue the players don't have the plays to work with. Meaning the fix, is to blow it ALL UP.WE NEED:New DEs, [or rushing OLBs if we're a 3-4 team]speaking of that, WE NEED AN IDENTITY. Are we a 3-4? 4-3? STICK TO ONE. That's the MAIN problem. Nolan is trying to do TOO MUCH. Too much with players who can barely do ANYTHING. Get a NEW DC, who will stick to ONE plan. Bruce Lee said it best: I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.Stick to one Defense. Perfect it. -----As for the offense?Matt Ryan is our Quarterback, and he will be for a while. He's a great one, guys. While he had protection, he looked Legendary..recently..the protection has disappeared. Keep Tice. I truly think this is a case of "I have nothing to work with"Jake Matthews is going to be a GREAT LT. He's a rookie and he's showing it, but he will continue to get better. And Tice will utilize it.Replace Blaock. His time is up.Hawley..I'm torn on Hawley, he seems to be the 'mean streak' guy this OL needs. But is he a good C, or not?Asamoah is a good RG, and he's a beast. He was actually a good sign.Whoever our RT is...: Enough said, right? Get someone stable.Julio: Obviously a great WR. Top 5 in league. He had some drops, but he's explosive and he is different. He's special. I remember a Falcons legend who in his first few seasons, people were calling a bust because of dropped passes. Now he holds Falcons records for just about ever WR stat.Roddy: He isn't a problem..I think he can still produce. He's retiring as a Falcon. And it's well deserved.Harry: He's our main person that's set to be a free agent. We need to keep him. Believe it or not, the offense has struggled a LOT with out him.Hester: Still explosive. TEs: Need a reliable TE. Toilolo maybe can learn to catch better..he is too physically gifted, to give up on him now.. if he learns to catch he can be an amazing huge target..but I do believe we need a more reliable TE.RBs: SMITH IS A MONSTER. He's a BURST off the bench - but I do not see him as a starting RB. I see him as a 2 headed monster RB..that being said, WE NEED TO STOP WITH THE FOUR RB CRAP. We need to either let Freeman take the reigns and start, [With Smith being electric as #2 RB] or draft a RB [Gurley, or another one] and having a 3 RB type thing with Freeman [Cause I don't see us giving up on him, he's a rookie] Smith, and the new guy we bring in. Quizz and Jackson it seems will be the odd-men out. Jackson was a great RB. He is a physical specimen..but he's old and I don't know, I hate that we didn't have him in his prime.COACHING:Koetter: I don't even know to be honest. I say get an OC who lets Matt Ryan run the **** offense. Koetter doesn't seem to be a HUGE problem, especially when our D is atrocious compared to our Offense..but Koetter has a lot to work with..I imagine what a GREAT proven OC can do with this offense.Nolan: Get rid of him for a guy who will STICK TO A PLAN.Smith: Bye. Get a defensive minded coach that actually knows defense. Offense doesn't need much guidance, we're lucky, because of Ryan. Dimittroff: Bye. Take your hair gel and get out of here. We need a GM who wants to GET TOUGH. TOUGH. TOUGHHHH. Not act tough for cameras. Get a GM who can evaluate the DRAFT. . and can see the OBVIOUS during FREE AGENCY.Cox: Keep. He's a tough DL. I truly think he was unfortunate to have such a bad DL.Tice: Same as Cox.---SUMMARY:Blow up the defense, including Nolan. Anyone but about 3 players are REPLACEABLE on D.. [ Keep Mo, Tru, Wor]Get rid of Smitty, and Dimmitroff. Replace a few spots on the OL.. [RT, LG, maybe C]Obviously sign PASS RUSHERS. NOT JUST ONE. WE WANT THEM ALL.BLOW UP DEFENSE. jlrfalcon
I appreciate this being thought out.I hate all the posters who simply say get rid of everything or trade everything for draft picks. This team has some glaring problems but many on this board refuse to look at the holes and instead of fixing them they want to just throw it all away. Unintentional Grounding
I'd stick to that and move into 2015 strongly.
JiveAF
While people think every part of the Falcons are terrible, I remain optimistic that we are in a way better place than a lot of other teams who seems to have a top 10 draft pick.Jags - can't even name 5 players on their team.Buccs - McCoy and Lavonte David are their only stars.. Barron is okay, too though.Jets - Besides a few DL players, they have no one good.Raiders - See the Jags.Titans - See the Jags.Redskins - Orakpo, Kerrigan, that's all.Rams - They actually have good DEs, Ogletree seems to be a good LB..but the rest? Trash. No free agents SHOULD choose the teams [who are basically the ones I just listed] with the most money, over us. We'll have a lot of money next season. We're right up there with those teams. We have a REAL QB. WRs. --- Those teams I mentioned up there, can't say that. Free Agents hopefully will buy into it. Falkonator
Worrilow should be replaced didnt read all of it that just stood out to me, on defense, alford(moved to slot)Tru(needs to shadow #1 WR) and Moore need to stay. and start everyone else can go or compete for a spot on the team. Shembo,Shede,Mass,Mop. show promise and deserve atleast a chance to compete, idk wtf happened to Mop and Shembo today, seems they didnt even play. Mass constantly got pressure when asked to rush. and shede was disruptive today. i should include southward as well he seems promising. JiveAF
I didn't go into too much depths with the DL. Shede can be a beast if tutored right.
JiveAF
Also; The Texans will still need a QB next season.HOPEFULLY we get a top 5 pick [unless we win a SB, which is the only way I wouldn't want a top 5 pick]Hopefully we get a top 5 pick. Maybe Texans win some games, get around 12? We trade them our 1st for their 1st and a buttload of picks so they can get their QB.We draft the BEST OL. Or best pass rusher. And keep that going for the rest of the draft adding some linebackers.I do want us to go after PASS RUSHERS in Free Agency. A lot of good ones going to be out there. Dirtybird56
I like well-thought out posts but you lost credibility when you said Worrilow should start next season. Worrilow is a slightly below average backup MLB due to his inability to diagnose plays, shoot correct gaps, and provide any semblance of support in coverage
Falkonator
Worrilow wasnt terrible this game. The run defense was actually pretty decent. The DL created 0 pressure and there WR duo burnt the secondary all day.Just need a pass rush and a hard hitting LB.he wasnt terrible but could use competition regardless, people say he is a tackleing machine, had wat 5 tackles today(solo) missed alot. look at Mosley who has been great this season. we need a MLB like that
JiveAF
I want;Mike Iupati, the LG, from SF..as a Free Agent pick up.If we're a 4-3 D:Suh, or Fairley from Detroit [DT] .. Get rid of a few of our subpar DTs.Jabaal Sheard from Cleveland [DE] .. He's a TOUGH DE. Who actually generates pressure AND can play the run.If we're a 3-4 / Multiple front.ORAKPO, Because he can play OLB, and DE. JUSTIN HOUSTON. JASON WORILDSPLENTY OF MORE TO CHOOSE FROM, JUST GIVE ME ONE OR A FEW OF THOSE GUYS LISTED.

atlantaprodj
Agree with everything except...New HC and GM will want their guys,,, Let's hope they will like Tice and Cox but that may not be the case.On Toilolo... He may get better and needs to! I was ready to bench his *** yesterday but your post reminded me about Roddy his first couple of seasons. His hands were inconsistent but we know how that turned out.To Toilolo's credit he does seem to get open so if he can work on those bricks he might become valuable. toadfishtom
Even with our horrible defense, we have a good enough team to be at least 8-8 if we are organized and motivated (coaching) our staff needs to be released all of them.period. cereal killer
Good post well thought out. I only disagree with your notion of Alford. He's a true top corner. He needs a pass rush to be truly gifted. He takes gambles and I like that.

The Titans are also switching to a 3-4 from a 4-3 and are showing the growing pains associated with it. It is a testament to Casey's skills that he is performing at the level he is.
