It's a long season
slamee101
Well that's good. I doubt we see him Sunday. Smitty was cryptic as usual but he looked like he was being held out for precautionary reasons Sunday. I honestly was thinking it was going to be a cramp. Truth.
well that is awesome news. hopefully they let him rest as long as needed. i trust we will handle him the right way
Top Flight
I want him to play and Carimi at RT but knowing Smitty he'll rest him (which is probably the smart route)
Lukas jackson
Smitty on the Mathews injury.
J-Wall
Well maybe he doesn't have an high ankle sprain. Maybe it was just a bad sprain that may require a little rest and rehab. If there is no structure damage he will just shoot it up and spat in twice. Bet he plays
falconstwopercentsized
Already knew this last night when he was rocking on it looking like he wanted to kill a saint.

falconstwopercentsized
I told myself that best case scenario, he's out two weeks. If this report is true, I'm gonna go hug my family.Hug them anyway big daddy
Romfal
If hes not 100% sit him rather than aggravating the injury. We've had plenty of examples of rushing guys in and biting us in the ***. I want Jake to play as much as anyone, but be smart about it.

hjerry
sounds like it was a grade 1 high ankle sprain, suck it pessimists
Bring It
The Falcons know how valuable their asset Jake Matthews is. He is the future ANCHOR of the entire O-line.........a future HOF player. They WILL NOT risk anything with him. TD probably has the best medical people in the Southeastern U.S. examining his foot this week. They will make the proper decision.

g-dawg
I will say this just like I said last year after Falcons made Roddy available for game#1 - three weeks afterwards - high ankle sprains take 5-6 weeks.Smitty made a mistake playing Roddy early - granted WR vs OT is different but the injury is not. falconstwopercentsized
Carrimi has looked good but I want the kid that gave jj watt a good work out to play against the bengals.
MAD597
A WR with s high ankle sprain is different then an young LT. He should be feeling better much quicker.
Falconwhit
I'd sit him vs. the Bungles and see if he's OK to play on the short week Thursday against the Bucs.
pzummo
I hope that high ankle sprain doesn't linger like Roddy's did last year. Better to keep Matthews out if possible? It's a long seasonThe high ankle sprain report was speculation, not confirmed. The MRI came back negative. That means there isn't a sprain. He has a sore ankle. That would explain why he had his helmet on wanting to come back in. I think the coaches decided it wasn't worth the risk making it worse after Carimi and Holmes were holding up.Mine is speculation as well. But sprains do show up in MRI's and the last report was negative. I suspect he pulled a muscle.
Carl927
While he probably could play, he probably shouldn't. He'll be less than a 100% anyway, and he risks further injury playing gimpy. It's game #2 - not the playoffs.

Carl927
Boooooo softMatthews would probably play on a broken leg... if you let him. Hopefully the trainers consider very carefully letting him play.
