QUARTERBACKS (2)

Yes, the Falcons traded linebacker Akeem Dent to the Houston Texans in exchange for T.J. Yates, but Yates looks far from ready to assume the backup role after a dismal preseason showing against his former team. Renfree hasn't been spectacular but he knows the offense better.

RUNNING BACKS (5)

Jackson appears almost ready to return from a hamstring injury, so it doesn't look like anything will linger like last season.

RECEIVERS (6)

Hester showed his value as a receiver against the Texans. Undrafted rookie Bernard Reedyshould make it if Drew Davis starts the season on PUP coming off foot surgery.

TIGHT ENDS (2)

It's a very close battle but I'm giving Shuler the nod over Bear Pascoe at the moment just based on how Shuler continues to make plays in the passing game. Pascoe could be right back in front next week with his blocking.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (9)

With Sam Baker expected to be lost for the season with a ruptured patella tendon, Matthews is expected to be moved over to left tackle from right tackle. Carimi, still recovering from an ankle injury, should have more value now as a right tackle candidate. And the addition of Jones to the mix is about having more depth at the tackle spot, although adding a veteran could be possible.

DEFENSIVE LINE (7)

Umenyiora looked good as the designated pass-rusher in the preseason loss to the Texans. Hageman is starting to figure things out and it showed in his play Saturday night.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS (4)

Smith earned more reps this past week as fellow rookie Tyler Starr sort of fell out of the picture. Starr has to have a strong last two preseason games.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS (5)

Shembo continues to progress and should get an opportunity to seriously challenge starter Bartu sooner than later.

CORNERBACKS (6)

Just changing it up a little with adding Arenas because he has had some moments. Allen has to show himself more.

SAFETIES (5)

Ishmael, who had an interception against the Texans, might put some pressure on Lowery for the starting role. Southward displayed his speed on special teams the last time out. Maybe Sean Baker remains in the mix for safety depth.

SPECIALISTS (3)

Nothing has changed here except Bryant and Bosher are coming off getting a kick and punt blocked, respectively.

Yeah I say Reedy over Roby. I think Reedy 's speed and camp buzz makes him too valuable to hide on a practice squad. Roby is a vet, but you know his ceiling already. Reedy I think will do good and has a higher ceiling.

I also don't see keeping Terrence Jones as OL, but we have to keep someone as reserve linemen. Will come down to him and Schraeder unless they pick up some cut they like better than both.

Numbers are wrong for Safety. If we carry 4, we still need to drop. ILB is possible, May come down to Angerer v. Dobbins. I give the playing edge to Angerer but his fragility is a concern.

If we do keep 5 safeties, you have to cut ILB plus someone in the Dline or OLB. Goodman or Jacques Smith

That is not good news for Tyler Starr.

hopefully Starrs son didn't make the call for the coaches "daddy didn't catch the ball, daddy didn't tackle him"

So far McClure has left Gunn and Johnson out of OLine, and Robertson off the DLine.......I can't help but think Gunn and Robertson both make it. TJones is a stretch, but I'm unsure of who Robertson would replace on his list. I will say, man I'm glad I'm not having to make these decisions!

I'd get rid of one of the CBs and keep Robertson. Other than that, a very solid list, although I still think we keep 3 TEs this season despite VM's insistence in his mock rosters that we'll only keep 2.

It wldnt surprise me if Reedy didnt make the team, although IMO he should. No much different than when everyone though D. Johnson was a lock last season. (didnt he end up on PS at first?)

I do think he is off on the OL though for sure. too many tackles, with Holmes and Schreader alreadybeing swing tackles.

I would guess: (9 guys)

LT - Matthews, Schreader

LG - Blaylock, Johnson OR Gunn

OC - Hawley, Konz

RG - Asamoah, Carimi

RT - Holmes, Carimi

If Reedy doesn't make it... I will lose my mind, he could be undrafted Steve Smith. He's fast and built with a nice frame with good hands and return game ability to go with his amazing speed. Reedy could take this offense over the top!

Bro...stfu hahaha you have gone too far.

I'm not sure why Reedy hasn't received more opportunities at WR during the preseason.

Maybe they are hiding him during the preseason and hard knocks but it seems strange based on earlier training camp accounts.

I hope it's not another Antoine Smith situation where the coaching staff is the last ones to realize a players value.
