What Happened To Competing For Every Position?

Recommended Posts

"I came in every day busting my ***," Davis said. "I was doing everything the right way.

"The only thing I thought was I wasn't going to get cut right now. I knew I had to compete for the job, but I thought I would be good through camp. I was no way being arrogant by saying, 'I'm already on the team.' I just had the feeling that, yes, I'm going to be in camp for the Falcons."

Falcons are a joke of a franchise. Clown material

Bum TJ Yates. Going to be following closely this dudes pre season. He better make sure he is on point in pre season

your boy Davis sucks. Point blank

Not my fault Ryan is a playoff FAILURE

But it's your parents fault that you are a human being failure...your dad should had used a condem. Now we are all paying for his ignorance. For the sack of humanity I hope you don't have children.

LOL yeah your right and he said all the right things while getting ready to leave the team. Davis also gave us an idea of what the Falcons think about TJ. So if TJ stinks to high **** this preseason, whose fault is it??

Well if TJ stinks then that means that Davis is not the only one that stank.

T&E is an idiot. There is literally no point in communicating with an idiot who believes he's intelligent. I mean who goes on a rant about a back-up QB? Especially one that has done nothing. You ask some fans of other teams and they'd say "Dom Davis who??", "What position does he play??". But not T&E, he tries to make a point about how the organization should let him compete with clearly superior players.....SMH

Yet again, an absolute FAIL!

The point is that there is no need for competition when there is a clearly superior player in the mix. Not to mention that back-up QB is far from "Most Important" position on the field. In the case that a back up QB plays, your already in "Worst-Case Scenario" mode. No need to waste time evaluating that position any further when you have so many other positions to evaluate this offseason.

No.

The point is... we went 4-12.

The second point is that we have only one playoff win in the last 6-7 years.

So I think it's fair to say that the notion that EVERYBODY from the General Manager, to the Head Coach, to the director of conditioning (Fish *sp), to the assistant coaches to the players on the field is subject to be replaced except the one position that, arguably, is the most important position in any franchise... is a bit ridiculous.

When you coddle the person manning the most critical position in the organization don't be shocked by the fact that your team suffers from a lack of toughness.

Oh... and it doesn't help when you leader takes a dive as opposed to trying to make it into the endzone (Don't deny it).

The will be competition... between the players who are good enough to warrant a place at camp.

By the OP's logic, we shouldn't be cutting or replacing anybody, because by his interpretation "open competition" means every single person on the roster has been promised a chance to compete.

Last time a checked, we had a limit of the number of people we keep under contract. Cutting and replacing one if them doesn't mean that there isn't competition at their position. It just mean that they won't be one of the players competing.

So let me get this straight. You seem to be saying that DDavis was going to be competing with Matt Ryan to play QB? That is almost T&E level of stupid.

How about this: there was already a competition for the backup role, and NEITHER DDavis NOR Renfree were able to win the job convincingly. Renfree just lost a bit less than Davis did.

If I had one wish from a magical genie, it would be for stupidity to be painful. I would get filthy rich investing in Tylenol and Advil off of you alone.

I'm saying we went 4-12 last year with a qb that is being paid like he's won a f****** Super Bowl.

So...

Let's revisit who's f****** stupid.

Oh... And as for T.E. I think yall should have a bit more respect for the guy to be honest with you. He is constantly pulling up stats and numbers to help yall see the light.

I, on the other hand, don't have the patience. You win one playoff game in 6-7 years with the weapons Matt Ryan had. Then follow that up with a $20 million per year contract only to go 4-12? I'm sorry, that's all I need to see. It's time to GTFO.

You are you using the word "We" yet blaming Matt alone. Those two ideas don't fit together. If it's "we" then it's not Matt's fault, it's the team's.

You talk about winning games, a team accomplishment, as if Matt alone is responsible for success or failure. He's not.

And I get being pissed about not winning in the playoffs, but you can't seriously be lobbying for a camp battle between Matt and any of those guys, could you? If so, further conversation is not necessary.

LotsaPoppa, I've seen a few posters use this as something to beat Ryan up with.

But the fact is, get used to these kinds of salaries for QBs. The NFL is driven by business and they are going to pay the "star" as long as the NFL keeps raking in the revenue.

Ryan's salary will be the norm in a year or so when some of these QBs have to be re-upped.

This is a ridiculous argument that gets perpetuated non-stop on these boards. If it's such a "team" accomplishment and "team" responsibility then the spoils should be dispersed accordingly.

Their not!

The "teammates" don't get paid equally. The "teammates" don't get an equal split of the accolades when everything is all sunshine. So this gutless effort to use "teammates" as Matt Ryan's personal human shields when the going gets tough has gone just far enough.

In short...

Your point is moot.

Stop the Coddling!

I have a problem with paying someone who is NOT a "star".

DD had 2 preseasons to show his potential against 2nd and 3rd stringers. He looked miserable. One good drive in 6 games. At least JJ has game experience and won a couple games to get Houston in the playoffs. But I agree he better look good in preseason or smitty and team will be in hot water over a freaking backup.

I mean unless your name is Matt Ryan, we do treat players pretty poorly. Abraham was led to believe he would play for multiple years.

Personal opinion aside, the NFL considers the QBs to be the stars, or else they wouldn't be getting the proportionate amount of the salary cap that they get.

But when we lose it's everybody's fault BUT Matt Ryan.

These clowns even fired the the strength and conditioning coach!

You see, this is how it works...

Matt Ryan gets all the dough.

Everybodyelse gets all the blame.

Any wonder his teammates let him grovel on the ground when Kenny Vaccaro tried to kill'em?
