Prisoners

Recommended Posts

Since Game of Thrones wasn't on tonight I watched Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paul Dano. Oh my God. That was the most intense thriller I've seen in quite some time. Has anyone else seen this movie? You think you know what's going on from the start of the movie, but you don't.

Considering the cast I'm surprised I've never heard if it.Is it on netflix possibly?

I doubt it. I watched it on HBO. I guess it bombed at the box office, but I remember the previews for it. It was incredible.

Well written. I watched it one night and it went off at 11:00 and I had work in the morning. I wanted to watch a comedy so bad before I went to bed. It left you in such a weird place emotionally.

I feel really weird right now. And I'm glad you did too.

Just finished watching it as well. What a messed up movie. Hated watching the parents emotions when the girls were missing. It was just hard to watch.

Great movie though.

It's the most horrifying ******* feeling on the planet. I experienced it for about 2 minutes several years ago at the beach. My daughter, now 10, was 4 at the time. On the last day of the trip, we woke up and noticed she wasn't in the bedroom. We frantically searched the condo and it turned out she had gotten up and crawled under a blanket in a chair in the living room and was sleeping through us yelling her name, flipping seat cushions. I'll never forget that fear. Such a hopeless, awful feeling.

I love when I can recognize that a film was shot in Georgia even though they don't say so or claim it's shot somewhere else. Watched it with family months ago and said "I know they're claiming PA but it sure looks like Georgia." Same thing with Spectacular Now and Zombieland.

Definitely wasn't expecting the twists but I liked that they weren't ridiculous twists either.

So much is filmed in Georgia now that you have a good 50 percent chance of being right every time lol.

How the **** do people not know about these movies? Critically acclaimed. I saw it in theatres, then again when it was released on video. It did 122 million at the box office lol

welcome to 2014 mdrake lol

Prisoners was a great movie all around .

Acting

plot

writing

Some questions are left unanswered . Don't want to ruin it for people who been under a rock

but how does girl escape drugged up?

why does the guy with snakes take clothes ? copy cat? was he moslested

I knew about it, I remember when they showed previews for it in theaters. I just don't go to the theater at all anymore, I wait for it to come out on video or the movie channels. I had forgotten about it, but HBO just started showing it and I remembered it looked interesting. I didn't know it would be such a complex thriller, the previews almost made it look like revenge porn. It was so much more.

Swift, one of those is a pretty big spoiler, might want to use spoiler tags.

Cause you definitely are led to believe both girls are dead for a while in the movie, in addition to the fact that it's 6 + days after their disappearance by that point in the movie and the viewer has kind of lost hope at that point. I can't remember how she escaped, but they were being held in the house at that point, and she just got up and hauled ***. The guy with the snakes, Bob, was one of the aunt/dead husband's early victims and they either let him go or he escaped. The forensic examiner pretty much explained it, he had that true crime book that dealt with mazes, which matched the dead husband's pendant (no connection, more of a theme in the movie) and he was using the book to try to recreate their crimes without actually hurting anyone. He was so damaged by the experience that's all he knew. Don't know if he was molested, I don't think it ever suggested that sexually abused the kids, but definitely physically abused them, drugged them, and killed them.

A lot of the movie made sense once the final reveal came. I noticed the pendant on the dead guy in the priest's basement because the camera pretty much focused on it. I figured the little boy who was kidnapped in the late 80's was probably Paul Dano's character after the detective visited with the mom and they watched the tape. The writing was great, even though Bob was a red herring, it was a well written one, I was NOT expecting him to show up in their houses and have the townhouse version of the guy from Seven's apartment. And then you think the whole time - ok, there's a dead guy in a basement who allegedly confessed to killing 16 kids, he's got to be related to all of this.

I have mixed feelings on the aunt. It was a great reveal, came out of nowhere, but for a second I went "really, that's where they went?" Still a great movie though.

Saw Prisoners a few months ago. Great flick. Pretty intense stuff. Also, believe it or not, I've actually been in one of the houses where it was filmed. The home that the film began in, the one that the two families were gathered in when the girls disappeared, used to belong to some friends of mine. That house is in the Stanton Woods subdivision off of Stanton Road out in Conyers. Much of the rest of the movie was filmed in the subdivision as well, including the outdoor scenes where they are looking for the girls and the scene where the kids first find the RV parked and start playing on it. Oddly enough, they chose to call the fictitious town the film was set in Conyers, PA when it was actually filmed mostly in Conyers, GA. I looked into it, and there actually is no such town as Conyers, PA. WTF, irght? Why not just say they are in Conyers, GA? I suppose it's because no one wants to admit they are in Conyers, because Conyers sucks. (And I can say that, because I'm from there.) tongue.png
