Phone Call With Allen

Recommended Posts

this is by far my favorite later round pick in many yrs, I can just tell he wants to compete. not saying he will be an all pro but he will give a 120 percent and will tackle

he also already tweeted julio asking where he at lol

Haha ... JJ probably already loves him.

You don’t have four interceptions returned for touchdowns by being just lucky. The Falcons’ fifth-round pick, Ricardo Allen, holds the Purdue record with that exact stat and some luck may have been involved, but it’s also the result of the right mentality.

“Once the ball is in the air, I always think it’s my ball,” he said. “If I have a chance to go get it, I’m going to get it. Whenever I get a chance, I’m going to run as hard as I can for the end zone.”

Allen ended his Purdue career with 13 interceptions and 22 pass deflections, two stats that show he was consistently around the ball. His smaller stature dictates that he has to step his game up and the 5-foot-9 corner says aggressive play is all he’s ever known.

“My aggressive style of play is what I’ve always been taught,” he said. “I’m not the tallest person around and I’m not the biggest person around but I’m going to give my all. I’m going to throw my body around and I’m going to try to make a play when the ball is in the air because when the ball is around, it’s my ball, it’s our ball. I’ve always played that way, I’ve always been that way and I’m going to keep playing that way in the NFL.

i say by game 4 allen will be the starting nickle

Haha, I can imagine this kid just following Julio around all summer 'covering' him. Julios in the mall buying a shirt. Allen grabs it and runs. Julio buying some food, Allen knocks it all over the floor laugh.png

Listening to him, I can tell this guy is already a professional between his ears. Look forward to seeing him contribute to this D.

agreed. sounds like a large part of his ballhawk skills comes from studying his opponent and knowing their moves. might be a guy who succeeds in NFL despite his lack of measurables and speed.

agreed he knows what it takes to beat the big wrs and has no problem putting in the effort. if our interior guys can collapse the pocket might get a few ducks thrown his way that he can return to the house

I started off not liking this pick at all because he projects to be a NB, but that interview sounded very good. He seems like someone who is a legitimate competitor. Some of the interviews you hear these dudes talking about just being glad to be picked, but he legitimately is ready to roll. I'll have to read more up on him, but i do love his attitude so far.
