My Case For Aaron Donald

Im about to make my case for Aaron Donald if we dont trade up ... The guy is 6'1 285lbs... He ran a 4.6 40 , bench press 35 reps, and ran a 7.11 3 con as a DE.

Not only do i think Donald can get us sacks/pressure inside but think of the effect Atkins play had on Cincys DE's ... A penetrating explosive DT also help out the edge rushers.. The Edge Rushers are allowed to get around that edge and the QB cant step up in the pocket.... A big time DT as a rusher helps out greatly.

Some will say well we resigned Babs, Jerry, and Peters...... Babs contract is basically a 1 year deal for 3 years ....Jerry has no guarantees in his contract so its no guarantee he will make the team.... Corey Peters is coming off a late season injury and if he does come back and shine.. We will not be able to resign him (out of our price range)...

Donalds versatility ....For the ppl sweating his size.... The dude has the athletic ability to line up and DE in our 4-3 sets... We are now bigger and stoutter at DE vs the run but we are losing zero athletic ability .... His athletic ability is better then some DE.. At the combine he ran as fast as my boy Khalil Mack and 285lbs (a little slower) ... you have a big 285lb DE on run downs

People only complaint is his size but low man wins in the game of leverage in the NFL.

If we cant trade up and get a impact guy like Clowney ... We need to consider Aaron Dolnald.

For the PFF lovers... guess who graded out as the best defender at the Senior Bowl

I wouldn't be opposed to taking him at all. Its strange that we were told our coaching staff really liked him but there seems no mention at all of taking him....could it be they are trying to keep him on the down low?

it was a report saying we would take him if our tackle is off the board at 6 .... But i think its mainly because of his size...Ppl cant get over that... The dude is a playmaker man

There is no room for him to have a significant role with Soliai, Babs, Jackson, Peters, Jerry all locked up.

Perry is locked up ? Dude is making the min ...Its no promise he makes this team.. Peters is coming back off a injury .... Dude we need a pass rusher ... The guy is a good pass rusher

I would love Donald, but this FO has always been a needs first run operation. And we signed and resigned 5 DT's. I just don't see it as much as I would like it to happen somehow. We just have bigger holes to fill.

pass rusher is a need .... i dont get how everyone wants to trade for suh a DT but say its no room for Donald ..lol

I agree, this is the play at 6. Possibly even above OT. We need to crush pockets.

Great point about Peters. Along with Babs aging we really need an infusion of talent at this spot.

Jerry would be cut and Peters would be able to come in slowly...

remember when the Giants had good ends, then drafted JPP? rotation people...

Man i have nfl rewind.. I went back and watched Jurrell Casey and 2 games of Atkins (2012) this past weekend..... Man those dudes impact games in many ways.... Penetration up the middle bother QBs in more ways then from the outside.... I think ppl have forgotten what Rod Coleman was like (whom donald ran faster then while weighing 23lbs more)

I want Clowney but if we stay at 6 ... Donald has to be considered

They drafted JPP because Osi was a pass rushing specialist only and was horrible against the run.

In drafting JPP, they moved Kiwanuka to SAM OLB and kept Tuck at LE so they could have 2 starting DEs that could both defend the run and rusher the passer.

On sure passing downs, the brought Osi in and moved Tuck inside to DT.

ok, Peters is coming off Achilles injury, Soliai is a run stopper, Jerry is Jerry, and Babs can't do it by himself on pass rushing downs...you now have a situation where Donald gets some burn and improves our defense.

If TD was really interested in getting Donald I doubt we would have signed Tyson Jackson and re-signed Babs.

Babs is ok this year... His contract his 3.6 mil next year... We could cut him and gain 2.3 mil in salary cap... If we have him as a june 1st cut... We would save over 3 mil... My point is his contract is a this year deal and wait and see after that type deal.

I want Clowney but if we cant get him Donald and Barr is our best bet at getting a pass rusher..... Watching the effect Casey and Atkins has..... Man that can help out a guy like Mass

Yes, but you don't draft someone at 6 to be a rotational player.

I'm not sure if Nolan would use him when he decides to use the Falcons 3-4 packages.

Has anyone seen Donald line up at DE? I've been curious, with his speed, and obvious hand fighting techniques, if he couldn't be legit there. Rotate between DT and DE. He seems better than all the DE's outside of Clowney are likely to be.

If he's limited to just inside, it's hard given our plethora of needs. But since pass rush is a primary need, if we get it from him rotating between UT, RDE, and 5 tech DE...so be it.
