Unofficial 2014 Imd Off-Season Grades

Recommended Posts

This is something I wanted to do last year and I know a couple of people are calling for it this year so here is what I propose. Any ideas on improving this are greatly appreciated, but here is what I came up with so far. Since we don't have many active GMs left I think this should go thru rather quickly. Everyone post their updated roster with the starters only. You can included any players you have just set packages for eg.... 3-4 NT, 2 TE sets, Dual HB, 5 wide, GL, KR. DO NOT POST YOUR ENTIRE ROSTER OR ROOKIES YOU DONT INTEND TO START. Once the updated team rosters are posted, everyone will place a vote on the updated rosters from 1-10 with 10 being the the best. YOU CAN NOT VOTE ON YOUR OWN TEAM. The total is then added up and divided by number of votes received giving you your 2014 IMD grade. Example 79 total points divided by 10 votes = 7.9 grade. Who over has highest score is 2014 IMD GM of the year. Hopefully we can adopt and improve this proration of IMD in the future. Any ideas or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Idk about just the starters, for some teams depth is more important than others.

I understand depth being important but I've always looked at this game as building the team you would put on the feild if you were the GM. I have depth at WR and CB but that doesn't translate to being the best team. Isn't IMD about building the best team or am I the only one who looks at it that way?

I thought the game was "Who improves their team the most?" Which would include concepts like improving depth and adding versatility. That doesn't always translate to starters. If the game was "let's see who can draft the most starters" then obviously a team like Jax or Oakland will win every time because a fifth round pick might be better than who they currently have with their talentless rosters.

A team isn't defined as just starters. That's what you're missing.

Not missing anything but wats the point of listing a 3rd or 4th string player. Nick Foles is my starting QB so it's no point in listing my 3rd QB. He won't affect my grade but the guys in the starting line up will.

Like I said if anyone has any better ideas let's talk about those ideas. All I want is to get a score to compare my off season with the rest of the boards.

I think listing a 53 man roster like I did above might be the most pheasible. That way you will have to cut some of the "dead weight" and should be fairly seamless to look over

If the grade is supposed to be a reflection of the offseason, as it clearly says in the thread title that you typed, then shouldn't all offseason moves be taken into consideration? It doesn't make sense to go through an entire offseason and then only consider the surface moves.

Yes it is. I see where me typing Starters Only is a problem, just a common case of miscommunication on my end. This is basically what I was asking for minus the 3rd-4th string guys. Doesn't have to be the complete 52 man roster but that's what we're shooting for. With the unsigned FA going back to their original teams, FA signings and the draft the Eagles have around 70 players so I was only going to put down the guys I would suit up on Sundays instead of the whole list.

Yes they should be. I just don't think listing the 6th DT on your team or a player you couldn't move will affect the grade much. With the additions you made for the Texans I doubt you'd include Schaub on your list, unless you deemed him as a player you would suit up on Sundays. Maybe he's the backup, maybe he's the starter, maybe he's the new water boy.

Go

If everyone would post their info in the Team Profile Page that is a pinned thread, it would have all of this information in one location, then you could create a thread giving grades.

I'd disagree. I went from Alex Tannery to AJ McCarron as my 3rd string QB. While it's not a major move, I think it's better for the team if my #1 goes down & better in the long run as well.

I look at it as building the best team, but I see team as #1-53, not my starting 11 on each side. Very important to upgrade starters, but it's also important to have quality depth.
