"Open enrollment ends March 31. We are preparing for a surge in enrollment, and if consumers are in line on the 31st and can't finish, we won't shut the door on them. To be clear, if you don't have health insurance and do not start to sign up by the deadline, you can't get coverage again until next year," HHS spokeswoman Joanne Peters said in a statement.

The expected move follows similar decisions by state officials in Maryland and Nevada, where state-run healthcare exchanges have had difficulty handling enrollee applications and are likely to leave applicants stranded by the time the deadline passes in just over a week.

Since people only have to carry insurance for 7 months of the year, couldn't they extend it to May and still not pay the penalty?

The title of the thread horribly misrepresents what the article says.

How so?

The white house is proposing giving an extension to anyone who has had a problem enrolling in the past (which is everyone).

no it isn't even close. honestly there is enough stuff wrong with it where you don't have to make up stuff to criticize it.

^^^^^ non responsive response.

Tahuyaman's goal is to flood a thread with tons of posts that are either insults or asides/distractions to get people off track and otherwise ruin the thread. He does this a lot more in threads when he thinks his side is getting demolished. The idea is to "bury" the thread under a pile of BS and insults so other people won't wade through.

So my suggestion is to just ignore the troll when he pops into serious threads and do whatever you want in threads that aren't serious or are nonsense. Let him crap all over the place in the threads that don't matter, IOW, and don't engage him in the threads where there are serious discussions going on.

And this is my single biggest criticism of American politics right now............ there are always more than enough legitimate things to ***** and complain about with either party yet people on the other side of the isle feel the need to exaggerate, distort, and flat out lie about what the other side is doing.... it does happen on both sides... When the republicans finally take office again the Dems will be doing exactly what the republicans are doing now......... except because of the pissing match nature of the political system they are going ot take it to higher extremes than what the republicans are doing now.........and that is **** extreme.

It would be nice to actually sit down like you know adults and talk about what is actually in the bill ( or any bill) and the merits and the deficiencies that are associated with the bill and not make **** up about it.

and yes the thread title is horribly misleading to what the article says,,,,,,,,,, horribly

This is a non answer. Explain how anything in the title is wrong.

1)The Deadline is being extended

2)The reason it is being extended is because people are having (had) problems enrolling.

Your feelings aren't proof.

Just like gut feelings are not proof either?

what date is the deadline being extended to? can a person initiate an application after the original deadline and still be covered this year?

It is not being extended......... they are saying if people start the sign up process before the deadline yet have issues because of the system you will not be penalized....... which is fair and reasonable.

It also says that if you do not start the enrollment before the 31st and you try to enroll later you are SOL.

So it boils down to here is the rule... and here is the exception to that rule. but the rule is still in place.

It is not that hard to read what you post unless you are snak.

The article doesn't provide those facts.

What does these two questions have to do with your assumption about the thread title?

I guess the true problems lies in the fact that people don't understand the meaning of "extension."

On April 15th, do people have to mail their taxes to the irs on that date, or can they just start filling out the forms on the HR Block website?

it's not being extended. it's in the article you posted.

So you have problem with reading comprehension. That explains a lot.

The Obama administration will soon issue new Obamacare guidelines allowing people to enroll in health coverage after a March 31 deadline,

from your snippet that you yourself posted.

Translation.....the deadline is not extended. However if you started before the deadline and you were not able to finish due to system issues you will not be penalized.
