Wide receiver Kevin Cone, who was not extended an exclusive-rights tender by the Falcons, is set to workout for the Carolina Panthers on Friday, according to his agent Mark Clouser.

Also, Jacksonville is interested in Cone.

The former Georgia Tech player who walked onto the team after transferring from NAIA Shorter College was one of two exclusive rights free agents for the Falcons. Wide receiver Drew Davis did receive a tender offer of $570,000.

The Falcons signed Cone, a St. Pius High grad and the son of former Tech player Ronnie Cone, in 2011 after he started 10 games as a senior for the Jackets and reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds at Tech’s pro day.

Cone made the practice squad and was added to the active roster in Dec. 2011.

In 2012, Cone was active for 12 games but did not play any offensive snaps.

Last season, despite a rash of injuries, Cone couldn’t crack the lineup and saw Darius Johnson past him on the depth chart.

Overall, he played in 28 games, mostly on special teams. He had one career catch for 12 yards.

Good special teams player to work opposite Smith. Kind of sad to see him go.

It's sad he'd be the best and most experienced WR Carolina would have.

Now that Steve Smith is in Baltimore, Ginn in AZ and Lafell in NE.. they really have next to nothing at WR. They signed Cotchery but he is at best a decent #2 or good slot receiver.

Oh that's right they got Cotchery, i forgot... Cam must be freaking out right now about who he's going to throw to.

Well, if he's healthy enough to play anyway hahah.

I am having trouble seeing the Panthers killing anyone next year. I don't know what they were thinking this year. They sold the farm.

It wasn't the Panthers offense that killed anyone last season........... Their Wr corp was depleted last year also. It will probably be depleted this year as well, when it is all said and done.

What killed teams and what will continue to kill teams, is the panthers' front 7, led by the DPOY.

The offense, most Panther fans were disgusted at our WRs last season.. None of our guys could really get open. They seemed to make every secondary the Panthers played against, look elite. If the worst happens, then the new guys will , also make every secondary they come against look elite. Point is, it really can't get much worse than it was last year.
