Devin Hester "was"..............

Punt returning and kick returning are fast twitch muscle skills, I have nothing against Hester, He "may" have been the greatest returner in the history of the game but He is 30 years old.

This is not Peyton Mannings position where you can be productive till you're in your mid 30's. Hester has had almost a decade of NFL pounding and His great returns and great numbers aren't from the last few years. I'm not hating on a player, I just think if there is one position where you go "youth".....then return specialist would be that position.

I'd much rather roll the dice on a 30 year old D or O linemen who might work for a year or two....but return specialist is not what I'd expect.....at least Ray Edwards looked better in theory.

I'd have thought someone with your user name would appreciate his age.

I'm so old I've forgotten my prime, but I do know that running backs and returners have short careers for the most part.....I know there are exceptions......but people like Darrel Green of the Redskins and Emmit Smith are the exception not the rule.

a bit of forward thinking can be tough to find around here sometimes.

the real question is will Smitty have the cojones to bench him once he loses that burst in the near future? unlikely

He will be most dangerous when our D makes other teams go 3 and out from their own 20-30 yard line. We would have great starting position from a least our 40 if he doesnt take it to the house in the meantime.

Well, if there is one post where I wish I would have to eat my words, it would be this one.....I would love nothing more for him to tear it up next year.

Like I said....to me, it's a position that screams "youth".

Best return guy in the league last season, best return guy ever, outran a cheetah in 2013. I'll take a chance on him. I dont see any reasons not to, they can still pick up a 30 yr old lineman who wont start. But why pick up a 30 year old lineman who wont start or will be soon replaced, and pass on a guy who has broken records and is still the best at what he does? I'm glad they got Hester.

Well, like I said....I'd love to be dead wrong about this post...I really would.

How much of his burst has He already lost ?

well, his stats from last year are impressive enough to say it's still relatively there. I didnt watch him this past season. However, as you pointed out, father time does not play nicely with punt returners.
