Falconsfan567
I don't think we are done adding pieces just yet, we'll grab a FS off of the FA list and who knows what the draft holds.Yeah we're not done. Just giving an update of what I think the defense looks like right now on paper.
Bawse
just giving you and your little friend a taste of your own medicine. I'm in here to discuss different opinions about what may happen but when people come in and try to make it seem as if people like me and msalmon know nothing about football and act like their word is the only word that means anything, then yes I will be more than happy expose a weakness. Obviously I have and I applaud myself. But since you say you're done, please have a nice day. Hopefully you will be able to share an actual opinion one day.My opinion is that my posts are factual, hopefully you'll understand when gameday comes and you see our multiple packages. Have a good day my friend.

Free Radical
but the entire time he hasn't had players that fit what he's wanted to do. Come on mr know it all. You should know thisAnd there's been numerous posts of shots of our defense lined up in the looks he was saying we weren't able to run effectively. What do you think it was when we started running our 3 DT looks? He was trying anything to try to make chicken salad out of chicken ****. Free Radical
and with that you prove my point that I made earlier. No one else's opinions are accepted by those of you who approach it like you absolutely know what they have in store. What you posted is only opinionNo, you tool. You want a neat blog article or Wikipedia link to break down a scheme that is never going to be discussed outside of coaching circles and people who take joy in reading published coaching and football defense book. What do you think it was when we started running our 3 DT looks? He was trying anything to try to make chicken salad out of chicken ****.point is it's hard to run a preferred scheme when you don't have the talent to do so. It's TD's job to being those players in right. Maybe TD didn't get the hint until last season. And let's not forget that the position coach wasn't really much help in the development. When you go 13-3 in the first year of a new scheme, the problems are completely overlooked. Injuries to a key player in the scheme and the other key rusher getting cut didn't help matters either. I still don't know why mass wasn't used as the hybrid rusher as it fits his strengths but oh well

GEORGIAfan
Im just messing man. I've seen so many diagrams and people blasting on each other for the last 3 days. We don't and wont know what we are doing until game 1As I said earlier, It has become less about getting a better understanding( which is what I want) and more about "HAHA I am right! YOU ARE WRONG". You are right we will not know the truth until Game 1, but the way I look at it is, in our 4-3 looks and 3-4 looks(at least from the diagram I posted) we need a 1-tech NT, 5-tech DE, and 3-tech DT, which is exactly what we got in (Soliai, Jackson, and Babs). whether the DE/OLB puts his hand in the dirt or standing up does not matter. How he got us through that first season is still amazing.exactly. It's all personel. No coordinator can fully run his preferred scheme with players that don't fit his scheme. TD always talks scheme yet nolan feels he didn't have the players to run it properly. Makes you wonder if the 2 ever discussed that topic the first 2 years

hjerry
So when TD says we are running multiple fronts, that's BS, but when he mentions the godly ultimate solution to all our problems 3-4, he's obviously telling the truth. Sure, just keep picking only the parts you like, and, btw, this doesn't discount a word of what poster like me and KOG have been saying. TD always talks scheme yet nolan feels he didn't have the players to run it properly. Makes you wonder if the 2 ever discussed that topic the first 2 yearsOf course they did- conversation probably went like this:Look I know the D is a mess, but be patient.Got to fix the Oline with this draft [ Konz/Holmes] and then there's not much Dline talent available the next year, but we'll grab a couple of corners and a couple of late rounders with promise and we'll fix the Dline in 14.Now, the fact that Konz/Holmes haven't fixed the Oline yet [ please, lots of threads on that, don't get distracted] doesn't change what TD was doing that draft. He got Nolan Mass as a project late roundsBe really surprised if one of the first 2 picks isn't a pass rushing stud.Really don't care what you call what Nolan is doing-and when they change from a 3/4 to a 4/3 look as the ball is being snapped, who cares? As long as the WRs get covered, run gets stuffed and the QB gets confused.Do think that Nolan's D will be much more effective this year, think he'll get a new toy 1st or 2nd round, doubt they're done in FA

Another NT has to be in the mix as well.

I'm a voracious reader of football books to include Steve Belichik's wonderful book n football scouting methods? There's not a book titled "Mike Nolan's defense."All you have to do is look at the coaching trees, read about the 4-3 under concepts, hybrid defenses, see what Nolan did with Baltimore, the 49ers, Denver, and Miami to know he doesn't run a 3-4 defense, he runs a hybrid.
