How Good Is Asamoah Really?

Recommended Posts

No doubt he's fine or above average run-blocker. But he did loss his starting job to Schwartz. Will he be an upgrade?

I don't think we should add any more O-liners in the FA - we have a lot unproven talent ( Schraeder, Gunn, Johnson and Jones) with the addition of Asamoah and Carimi, I think we are pretty set. We still need a RT though. Another questions is, do you see Schraeder, johnson etc. to earn a starter spot`?

Actually you have it backwards...he was more so known for pass protection vs run. the other guard Schwartz was the plow at run blocking. No to say that Asamoah cant run block, its just that pass protection is his thing. He lost his job due to injury, Schwartz played very well and stayed in the line up. I think he is fine, My concern is RT. I already expect LT to fail or become injured lol.

Well on paper i think our tackles looks fine, not great at all though. But Baker has dropped severe, Holmes hasn't lived up to the expectations. That leaves us with Johnson, Schraeder and Jones ( maybe carimi) I think at least one of them could earn a starter spot at RT/LT if we don't get Robinson or Matthews. But it also depends on the injury situation. If we loss Baker and Johnson early we have a problem.

Well he's a beast as a mauler in madden :D

I haven't seen asamoah that much, therefore I'm asking - nevertheless everything over Reynolds is an upgrade..

I heard on 680 the Fan the other day that Asamoah was considered one the best linemen the Chiefs had before Reid got there, and his scheme kinda put him out of place, then he got hurt, and they decided Schwartz was a better fit.

I think our RT position will be fine this year. We have some good depth there now with the aquisition of Carimi. Holmes has a full year of experience under him and Mike Johnson should be back healthy. This is one reason I really don't want to spend a 1st on an OT. Our depth on our front seven (especially if we are going to play more 3-4 base) is not there.

There's many reasons for going OT at #6:

1. Upgrade at RT

2. Baker insurance (Baker's injuries killed us last year)

3. Franchise LT once we are done with Baker

Agreed. We are not fine at RT by any stretch of the imagination and it will have to be addressed in the draft. The thing is, taking an OT for the sake of taking an OT at #6 will lead to mistakes. Robinson is the only one I see from the top OTs who can potentially fill the immediate need at RT and the long term need at LT, since I don't see Matthews or Lewan either having any success at RT, so if he isn't there why take an OT there? The class is deep with players who can definitely fill our immediate need at RT and could potentially move to LT in time, namely players like Morgan Moses and JaWuan James.

Then what are we gonna do about our dline? Reasons to spend the those first picks on the line.

1. No game changing play maker on the defense (Clowney/Mack would do that).

2. We drafted two cornerbacks that need a solid front seven to help them perform at the level they need to be at.

3. No depth in the front seven of the defense especially if we run more 3-4 base.

4. Baker back healthy, holmes can play LT or RT now, Johnson is back healthy & we brought in a former 1st round pick in Carimi to compete for that RT spot.

laugh.png if any team loses their starting LT and who will most likely be their starting RT they will have a problem. You know before FA started you were already complaining about us not signing anyone. Then within minutes of our signings you were complaining that we didnt sign any passrushers and now you are making up hypothetical scenarios to complain about. I dont know if you are a troll or just a really negative fan but if you are a fan, what the hells the point in being a fan if you are always so negative?

Dude. Go watch a couple games on NFL rewind with Asamoah at RG from 2012. I dont know which games he started in 2013 so I started back that year. HE IS WAY BETTER THAN ANY OF OUR GAURDS.!!!! Just watching a couple of these plays he gets to his man, handles the blocks, does the "run around" block for running backs to block the linebacker. HES GOOD

he got injured and Schwartz played so well they kept him in. His strength is pass blocking. I'd say he is as good as Blalock

So what you are saying is that neither of our starting guards could start for the Kansas City. And they are probably the best two linemen we have.

Just curious but why don't you think Matthews can play RT? Didn't he play there every year but his senior year? From what I read he also earned SEC all american team while playing RT. Is it you don't think he has the talent to do it in the NFL? Just curious, can't say I've watched much if any of his play.

I just have a feeling that he will be the pick due to his ability to play both RT & LT. Our coaches seem to love that ****. I personally prefer a few others over him.

I also have an irrational thought that he will bust. I mean not everyone of these Matthews dudes can be awesome, can they?
