kiwifalcon
LOL ok I'm done with it. Congrats to Hawley for his 3 million bucks I guess.I know I'm not jumping up and down about it either but we will see as above the benefit of the doubt the FO have promised help on the interior so for the pro Hawley crowd there about out of excuses if he falls over. gazoo
Basically its what i thought ...Basically a one year deal... They want to give Peter Konz a chance to compete with Hawley (Hawley the leader) for the Center future position... If Hawley loses ... He gets cut ... If he wins... He sees that 2nd year.Good Job FO good post atljbo. seems many around aren't aware arguably the leagues top talent evaluator Ozzie Newsome was making a run at Hawley, and other teams were interested as well. I guess our armchair GMs know more than Ozzie Newsome, or so they think.
kiwifalcon
Hawley played well last year with about 4 rotating RGs next to him, including the worst OL that we had.Now Hawley is in a better situation and in between two solid players. Players get better. It can happen. The years prior to last, Hawley didn't play well. He got another opportunity and capitalized on it.The legitimate reason for getting was because Hawley didn't play well but he showed plenty of growth at the end of last year. Sh1t happens. It would have been great for Halwey to show this 2 years ago but he didn't and we tried to fix it with Konz. Now we don't want to give up on a 2nd rounder so we bring back a NOW solid Hawley for insurance. It's truly not that difficult to understand. It's really based on your opinion of Halwey. If you're stuck on Hawley's first 3 years as a player, then you would understandably be concerned. But if you noticed Hawley's progress and play last year, then you are most likely accepting this contract. What say Konz beats out Hawley in TC its happend before then we are paying 2 mill per for a guy that I guess already has his butt well worn on that bench. He is then a backup that we can cut after year 1. That 2 mill isn't going to hurt us for 1 year. And I would be ecstatic if Konz won, then that means the 2nd rounder wasn't a waste. That would make Peyton happy as well. Lol.
ATLFalcons11
The only way this is a negative is if both Hawley and Konz play terrible next year. Not if either one beats out the other and plays well. Atlanta_Dawgs46
It's basically like the Reynolds contract last year. Hawley has more potential than Reynolds. If he doesn't produce, he is gone next season.
Five_Fifs
Here's our "solid center" getting thrown like a rag doll:As for Konz, he has a LOT of work to do. I'm not holding my breath.Do you have a gif of this actually happening during a play? If not, you not really established anythingI do line that he seems to be the only guy still trying to block someone on the play though

Theres this thing called a salary cap...... He may have had a line and chose not to cross. Or maybe he offered a very similar deal and Hawley CHOSE to stay where he was comfortable.... atljbo
If Bruce Irvin was proven to be a bust after his 8 sack rookie season I want to see the Falcons start busting like the Seahawks bust.Come on.. They moved the guy to LB because he wasnt holding up at DE... He might not start next year... I can bring upJames Carpenter and John Moffit.Im not even trying to throw shade Irvin way.. I like the dude so ill take that bust word back... ill just say that the Seahawks recognize its best for them to grab proven D-Lineman in FA then them draft them.... They looking at Jared Allen.. Jason Hatcher... i can go on.My point is no team hits all the time... Team misses
maxatlanta
Hawley has not earned a 3mil/yr contract. We screwed up last season by projecting that hawley, Reynolds, konz, holmes, and johnson were capable of starting. even though none of them had established consistently decent play. If hawley doesnt perform, td will be exposed as a failure at judging OL talent. He could have signed a vet with a proven track record and didn't. I like td but hawley should be competing for a srating role. Not being handed one.
autigerfan
Hawley was more than passable last year considering he wasn't getting much help from the guard spots. He will be fine with improved guard play which I am expecting this year.

Ravens very interested_________________________________________________________________________________Just Brilliant Peyton! The Ravens and Colts were both interested in Joe Hawley, says Ozzie Newsome was **very** interested in Joe Hawley, reports were we may have a tough time resigning him because of outside interest, and based in this report you suggest there is no way to tell if the Ravens or Colts were interested in Hawley. Or perhaps you are suggesting Ozzie Newsome was very interested in Hawley because Ozzie Newsome didn't like him. Perhaps this is your argument? You truly are the data queen. Able to assimilate information with resounding brilliance.
Peyton
Gazoo, I love the little game you play where you completely ignore the question asked. You are the best at it.Do you or do you not have any information as to what value Ozzie Newsome would put on Joe Hawley? And by that I mean do you have any information as to how much money he may have offered or even considered offering? That is my question, stated so plainly, that even you can understand it. Peyton
Come on.. They moved the guy to LB because he wasnt holding up at DE... Maybe they just saw a chance to improve their team by moving him to LB and signing some DEs. Worked too. Maybe they also knew that he was being suspended at the time they signed those DEs. Probably the case.
muskokas finest ©
Why are we paying that dude 3 million dollars? Who in the h*ll does TD think we are bidding against? All agents need to do is pull out other contracts TD has given his own draft picks. You are moving the goal posts and I'm not buying it. Above, YoungHeezy stated other teams with titles were making a run at him, your reply was "are you just going by what his agent told you".The Colts, Ravens and Giants we know were all interested in Hawley. Now that your are cornered, you have your cyber goal post relocation crew moving quickly to accommodate the new argument about how much they were going to offer him, which conveniently none of us will ever know since Falcons were smart enough to lock him up shortly after FA started. falconidae
If Hawley is solid, then why was he never in the lineup until the Falcons got desperate because Konz sucked so bad?Because Hill didn't like him?And Konz played guard pretty well last of 2012. If Hawley wins the starting job, Konz can back up the interior positions and take over for Blalock in a year or two.
