With The Signings Of Solai And Jackson And Asamoah...

Recommended Posts

I mean last week I would have said ANYONE on OL or DL was a must. I still don't see how we pass on Mack if he is there at 6 but if he's gone, as is Clowney and the AUBURN OT, then I could see TD taking Watkins as Roddy is getting a little long in the tooth.

heck no. Ebron is not among the top 10 players of this draft. Trade back and get him. But taking him at 6 is stupid

yeah, but unlike Watkins, Ebron would be on the field for most of the game and would fit a need. Remember, every time our FO guys get asked about the draft they say we are a"needs based team"

true but Ebron still isn't worth the 6th overall pick. We need a FS but I bet we dont take one at 6.

Why not just take Ha-ha Clinton-Dix?

He is a heck of a FS and he will definitely go top 15 with an outside shot of going top 10.

Charles Davis on "Path-to-the-Draft" said he is hearing whispers from a few scouts saying Clinton-Dix might not be able to hold up in 'man-to-man' coverage. for what its worth.

Not sold on Sammy Watkins and the Julio Jones comparsion is way too generous. There were 5 WR in the 2011 crop that was straight beast. AJ and Julio have yet to really steal the show in the NFL but they will. There were spectalcular catches and the Julio vs. the 49ers showed how Julio Jones can be a dominant gamechanger. Sammy is not. He will not either. Not because hes average route runner (Timing with QB and reliability/consistency where he will be) but because he isnt physical either. He hasnt displayed overpowering accelleration and when he gets a dose of the CB in the NFL, he will learn that both AJ and Julio share something in common and its they both use their bodies well against defenders. Both have the body and mass and height to take hits (even bounce off hits, we seen Julio Jones do that a dozen times, watch any high light reel) It is extremely rare to have a big dude run a 4.4 and have almost complete body control to back pedal or acceralate into traffic. Julio has a slight advantage over AJ in this regard but its really hard to wrap up against Julio. You need a good tackling corner and help over the top to really take him down which is why nobody goes after the ball against Julio, they simply want to keep him contained. Sorry, I had to pipe in and get rid of this Julio Jones comparsion.

I think you're wrong about AJ not stealing the show. He's ahead of Julio at this point because he's been healthier, but AJ has certainly cemented his place as THE elite, young receiver. I'd still take Calvin, but Fitzgerald and those guys are much older at this point. It's going to come down to AJ, Julio, and Dez as the next crop of elite receivers leading the league.

What a terrible reason. Most safeties aren't going to be matched up man to man 99% of the time.

I would take Ebron before Watkins at 6.

Seriously???… If so, why?

Actually this is part of the reason DeCoud was cut. In our scheme, DeCoud was used in the slot a lot. Other teams are starting to use their S more in underneath man cov responsibilities too. It is one of the new trends in the NFL. As Calvin Pryor mentioned the other day, scouts want to know if these guys can backpedal and turn their hips like CBs. If they can't, it will limit which teams/ schemes they can play for.

With all this attention to the lines, I'd almost be ok with taking Sammy Watkins at 6 if the Rams don't take him at 2. Am I crazy?

Nah, you're not. I expect we'd reach for Lewan or Barr before we did, however. But I'd have no problem adding a playmaker in a draft filled with great defensive prospects

Great point. Decoud was more a deep zone guy. You almost have to be a cb as a S these days, or you'll be a part time guy playing close to the line a few times a game (Motta probably).

With that in mind, it makes me think bringing in Champ Bailey(who has openly said he would play Safety) would be a smart move.

I'm just thinking that Julio's contract is going to be through the roof. If we could get the "next" Julio on a rookie contract for three years it would be epic. Especially with the strong defenses in our division. Car and NO are good on D and Tampa brought in some heavy hitters in FA.
