Rough Estimate Of Current Cap Situation

Recommended Posts

Ok, folks....here's where we're at with the following caveats:

1) We have to estimate values for Johnson and Hawley. Will update when I can.

2) We don't know exact structure of first year compensation.

3) This is intended as a ROUGH mental checklist of where we stand

Cap Space coming into March 11, 2014

~$18m

Signings

Asamoah $4.5m/yr

Babs $3m/yr

Johnson $1m/yr (est)

Hawley $1.5m/yr (est)

Total post-signings cap room

~$8m

Released (official only)

Tommy DeCoud - +$3m

Pending cap money

Gonzo - $7m

Estimated Cost of rookie pool (per Over the Cap)

$3.5m (call it $4m)

Future Possible Extensions

Julio

Roddy

Spoon

Future Possible Cuts (and associated savings)

Osi - $3.5

Steven Jackson - $3m

Kroy Biermann - $3m

Matt Bryant - $2.75m

Total Spendable Dollars

$14m

Good info but we're not cutting Bryant, we're not cutting Jackson especially after Snelling left, and we're not cutting Bierman unless we make a run at Demarcus Ware. But if we sign the DE from KC Osi is outta here.

When the heck does the Gonzo money hit the books?

I understand that we may or may not do stuff like that. These are just potential sources.

Jackson is not Osi's threat. If he doesn't accept a pay cut then he'll be cut regardless. Also, if they draft someone like Mack the Biermann is as good as gone.

Looks about right.....

Only thing I would add is that the first year hits of typically are cheaper than the average of the contract....and there may be some small subsidy to consider when you factor in the top 51 contract that is being replaced by these new deals

Absolutely. Normally, I'd guess that somewhere like Over the Cap or Spotrac would have the structures available relatively quickly but something tells me they're very very busy.

Given that we're still looking at Tyson Jackson and we've opened a hole at Safety, I'm guessing we've push significant money backward.

Yeah, but the more I think about it the more I think we're absolutely going OT at #6 unless Clowney drops. There's no way we're going in with Holmes, Baker, and Johnson at tackle. We just spent $120M on Ryan.

We might make a run at Ware though now that he's available.

And you're right Osi is probably good as gone with all the 3-4 rumors flying around.

OT is very deep this year. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see us go OT in 2 or 3 and plan on starting that guy at RT with Baker at left.
