Decoud And His "stay Of Execution"

Recommended Posts

I'm about 50% on getting rid of Decoud. The other 50% that wants to keep him is based on the defensive line and our ability to pressure the QB. Anythime a team can not pressure the QB or stop the run they will have defensive backs that appear subpar at times. The battles is still won and lost in the trenches. If we can building a line to stop the run and pressure the QB Decoud may not be such a bad option after all. He is certainly on notice right now and knows he needs to improve. I think we should ask him to take a pay cut and keep him. Go good defensive line makes everybody better. I'm probably the only fan that wants to keep Decoud.

My thoughts exactly.

Every good Free Safety we want had the benefit of having a better than average line in their favor. Our 2012 season and Decouds production that year went hand in hand with having far better play up front.

Plus, we have a far greater need for line help than a FS. Let's keep him, upgrade the line and see what happens with him. If result are the same then let's draft one next year or maybe shoot for a replacement in the later rounds this year.

Is this correct? I understand that he had 6 interceptions 2 yrs ago--then none last yr?

I whole defence was bad last yr.What if we fix our defence an he get's 6 more nt's this yr?I'm 50/50 on him. Also the new hit law(rule) where you can't hit or lead with your helmet.I bet that slowed him down.Seeing dunta robinson get all thos fines for bad hits.We can't fix that position until we've fixed-our lines.unless a cheap deals drops in our lap.

IT'S hard to go from 6 int's to 0 .I wanted to share this.It happened yesterday.----I was riding down the paved alley in Albany,ga. When I saw this Bat(wood baseball bat) laying up against a fence, next to the peoples trash can. I stop & get it an a few other items--because these people are just chunking stuff out--good stuff. So this man comes out and says--the bat was given to him buy a friend --that was at this braves game.It was signed by otis nixon--oh yea--he said it was used & cracked in a real game.He said he was tired of moving around and hauling in around.Wow talking about being in the right place. So it's got pine tar on it --little bit of wood it missing in the middle. You could tell he broke it trying to bunt(i wonder if it was a hit???).I checked it out online. It's real --all legit--same nuber (125) type he used.--it made my day.But can't believe he just threw in away.Just wanted to share that.I really like this site. It's fun talking football with ya'll.So this might get edited out ,but it's true. So yea I agree with this safty thing.I'm 50% on Decloud.

Personally I'd keep him. DeCoud has great ball skills and will make plays, but if we have to rely on him to hit RB we're screwed. But IMO, that's on the front 7.

No. Cannot send the message to the rest of the team and incoming players that soft play is OK. Great ball skills? Dude was 83rd out of 86 qualifiers in coverage. That means there were 3rd stringers who out played him! There is absolutely no way I'd want to play alongside this guy when I know his heart isn't there and that is something you simply cannot teach. Mike Tolbert had dude terrified. Decoud wanted nothing to do with him that last game against Carolina. I'd rather play with ten guys game in and game out vs having a guy out there who wants nothing to do with contact, which could in turn end up getting someone hurt. Could you imagine if this clown screwed around and got one of our young corners hurt?

We can do much better than Decoud. Literally. Pick from 82 safeties around the league.

Decoud isn't near as bad as the boards makes him out to be, but he can certainly improve. The board picks a guy every year to blame for the problems with the season. Last year it was Nic and Turner. Decoud is the target this year.

Personally, I'm willing to admit that the safeties had their issues. Some of that was them, some was the rooks on D, some was scheme. But to say that Decoud is the only one to blame is like blaming the department of the interior for our governments issues with overspending...

I was in the same boat as you OP. How could he have such a fluke year and then be so terrible? He wasn't bad before 2012 either. Something short circuited in his head involving putting his body on the line, which is an absolute requirement in this sport and especially in most defensive positions.

Each one of those guys brought it on themselves. Turner chose not to be in shape and Nic and Decoud were the primary reasons we weren't in the Super Bowl in 2012.
