JT
I don't post too often but I couldn't help but to notice that the 3-4 rumor actually has legs this time around!...I'm shocked yet very excited! I have read several articles online about the 3-4 being considered are base package but no final word.I think this is long overdue and NEEDS to happen. Also I believe it's easier to find 4 good linebackers than it is to find 4 good D linemen. Having Nolan is just a huge bonus and almost a gurantee that the falcons defense will be top 12 if the switch is made to 3-4.Not much of a post I know! Lol...I'm just shocked that the 3-4 isn't just from a random falcon fan that wants to see the change this time...it's actually being considered within the falcons organization....I wonder when they will decide, guess we will know with the free agency moves that will be made. gazoo
We just hired an outside linebackers coach, this indeed does indicate we may be switching to a 3-4. I do not know of an outside LBs coach in a pure 4-3 defense. Here are the teams that have outside linebacker coaches I know of: Mike Smith - OLBs coach The JetsKevin Greene- OLBs coach Packers (just replaced with Ron Zook)Ted Monachino- OLBs Ravens (Don Martindale is their inside LBs coach)Brian Baker- OLBs coach RedskinsJames Bettcher OLBs coach CardinalsJustin Davis- OLBs coach New Englandall these teams run a 3-4 defense

You can tell by his past rosters and our recent draft picks like mass, Maponga and goodman. Still more a hybrid I imagine thiugh

He's a former DB who played with 4 NFL teams including 2 Giants superbowl teams. He has only ever played in a 4-3 scheme. As far as I can tell he's only ever coached for 4-3 teams though admittedly I haven't looked at the schemes ran by some of the smaller schools. So why would a 4-3 team need an OLB coach? Well IMHO considering how awful as a unit our linebackers have been in coverage coupled with his experience not only playing but coaching DBs maybe this is the FO way of trying to address that particular problem. Molson
It's the perfect year to do it with all of the starting Falcons DTs hitting FA. Peters was signed because he is most transferable to the 3-4 most likely.tried saying this months ago and everybody thought i was stupid and that itd never happen. That's not true. RedTUS12
We run more 3-4 than 4-3 already. We will continue to run the 4-3 under as it is a good combination of concepts from both fronts. This isn't news if you watched us play. The main thing changing is the players not the philosophy
JulioisCoolio
Not saying you're stupid but it's still not happeningnot a single rumor about the defensive side of the ball. no resigning of babs, hiring an olb coach. something is happening. malak07
If we switch to a full 3-4 base then Osi would be cut... I still see us running multiple packages we may increase our 3-4 usage though especially if we get a guy like Soliai as he can play both 3-4 and 4-3 very well. youngbloodz
We aren't switching to a full 3-4. You boys do know a NT can play in the 3-4 correct? If we going to a full 3-4 why resign Peters and looking to resign Babs? Things that make you go hmmm
Psychic Gibbon
I've been saying they were moving to a 3-4 since they hired Nolan. Ultimately I think it will be a 3-4/LEO 4-3 hybrid though.

Common Sense
Versatility is the model we aspire to. Multiple Defensive front alignments are the goal. That amoeba defense against Peyton Manning in 2012 was a thing of beauty.

That wont changeHe mostly ran that out of necessity. You can't expect to switch fully to a 3-4 when the previous scheme was a Tampa 2.
