Do We Really Need Alot Of Big Names?

Recommended Posts

Yes i do understand that we have a lot of needs but do we really need big names to fill those needs?I mean some of you are throwing our cap away on some big name players!(notice players is plural) I mean why pay players like Soliai,Johnson,Starks to bigger contracts?I mean there are alot of good names that arent bank breakers such as Arthur Jones,Johnny Jolly,Brett Keisel that could fill our needs and not screw us over cap wise.

You ever heard the old saying, "You get what you pay for"? I think that saying sticks around because it's true. You try to go bargain-basement with your money, you get crap talent. You go middle-of-the-road, you get mediocre, kinda like what we have right now. So that leaves paying for top-tier so you can get top-tier performance and production. Of course you can't pay top dollar at every position on the team, but you have to do it at enough positions so your lower-level talent isn't exposed and you have a total collapse like we did last year.

With the exceptions of Ray and Dunta ......sad.png

Not in the NFL you don't. The top FA's are never ever worth the money they get, because there are plenty of other payers who will give you 90% of the production for 25-30% of the cost. If anything, their contracts cripple teams, because of the constraints of the cap.

The key on the NFL is getting value for money, because of the constraints of the cap. The real value is in the draft, and the mid level FA's.

I'd say Buffalo was ok in giving Mario Williams that contract.

Haynesworth, Peppers, Mario, Aso, Revis ... all supposedly elite level players who signed huge contracts and failed to make the teams they went to any better. Not one of them was even close to being worth the money, and 2 were huge busts.

Williams is clearly worth the money to buffalo. The problem is, they STILL don't have a QB.

A good football player, but he not worth $16m+ a year. There are plenty of double digit sack guys, who aren't costing their teams close to that. That's why he's not worth it.

The bills were a 6 win team without him and they're a 6 win team with him.

Many of those 10+ sack guys are about to get PAID, big time.

Greg Hardy

Robert Quinn

Chandler Jones

Muhammed Wilkerson

Brian Orakpo

Kyle Williams

The only reason they aren't making what Williams is is because they're either on rookie contracts or got franchised.

We don't need a ton of big names, but we do need at least one difference maker on the O and D line. I would love an Asomoah/Solali pairing. The way the draft is panning out, it looks like offensive tackle will be the pick at 6, and the 2nd can either bring in pass rusher or a safety. Outside of that, depth is needed, and that can wait til further free agency and later in the draft. Maybe a TE in the 3rd.

We need approximately two impact players on defense, one on offense, then we just need role players. We were incredibly young on defense and our linebackers and corners got invaluable experience. I suspect we see jumps in production from those players.

That's the point. That's where the value is.

When there are guys on rookie contracts, some earning $500k a season, what does Mario do that makes him value for money, when he costs him team 30 times more?

No defensive player is worth $15m a season.

Arthur Jones will be a "bank breaker". Jolly is mediocre and Keisel is old.

Please explain how signing Soliai or Starks would be throwing money away? The money has to be spent.
