So.....who Gets Jairus Byrd?

Recommended Posts

As of 3/5/2014

Bills signed SS Aaron Williams to a four-year, $26 million extension through 2018.

The deal includes $14.625 million guaranteed, comes with a $6.25 million signing bonus and makes him the eighth highest-paid safety in the league in terms of average annual salary. Williams, the 34th overall pick in 2011, struggled as a corner through his first two NFL seasons. But last year's change to safety worked wonders, as he started 14 games, grading out positively against both the run and pass while racking up 82 tackles, four interceptions, one forced fumble and 11 pass breakups. Free agent FS Jairus Byrd is a goner.

the crazy part is just because his APY should be around 9-11 million that does not equate to his first year cap number which is commonly around half the APY;

so firstly he could be had with a 2014 cap number around 5-6mil; backloaded a little bit so his latter years are a bit overpaid, and we could easily get him on a 5yr/55m contract which then would be THE top safety contract in history i believe...topping Eric Berry 5yr/50m.

could look something like this (with limited research)

5 years/55 million ; 11 million APY

Base SignBonus Roster Bonus

2m 3.5m 0.5m

5.5m 3.5m 0.5m

8.5m 3.5m 0.5m

10m 3.5m

10m 3.5m

55 total

20 guaranteed

1989-they might. They might through enough $ his way he cannot say no. However, if Atlanta or Philadelphia are close he won't go to Cleveland. Nobody wants to go to Cleveland.

Mingo doesn't start, they won;t take Mack.

It will be Eagles,

Browns have a chance because of the new HC

Id take that deal. You could cut him after the 8 Mill year if he isn't worth it anymore.

Im not sure byrds only issue is money, bills probably offered him plenty, he just wants out and wants to win. But given that Eagles def can make case, but lots of teams have tons of cap this year we are not even in top 10 cap wise. long shot we get him, but I do think he will go to a team that wins a bit more than Bills or Cle

I'm just curious but how many here have watched extensive film of Byrd?

I have the feeling that most have such a high opinion of him based on what they've read.

I watched the Falcon/Bills all 22 and I don't think he's worth 9 million a year based on that game.

He doesn't have elite speed which will limit what teams can do with him schematically.

When he played the Falcons he was lined up 15 yards deep whenever he was the single high safety which took him out of the play most of the time.

He might be good but if guys think you can put him in the middle of the field and he's got the range and speed to make plays all over the field they are going to be disappointed.
