The Falcon Filter Fading?

Recommended Posts

With the new coaching heirs over the past few weeks do you think the " Falcon Filter " is starting to fade away? Now that the D-line and O-Line hands have changed you could say that the " Black Dot" might even go with the old coaches. The new guys are mean... and will want to: train, coach and bring in nasty players.

As the past few years have shown not all the TD Draft/ FA pick ups have worked out. Good or great players have been passed on because of a minor off the field issue or on the field mean streak. Not being a team captain or stand up guy have knocked players off our board.

If this team shows the " Nastiness" this year ,and wins a playoff game I could see the " Falcon Filter " going bye bye.

Your thoughts?

until you see the players chosen with questionable integrity then I say the filter is still in effect

I believe that this year we will take some mean guys from the draft. TD is on the hot seat with Mike.

As I've said many times to myself " You can't do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result"

Smith and TD are still going to select the players. The specialist coaches will be supplied with the questionable talent and cop the blame when they can't turn draft busts into all pros. It's frustrating as a fan, imagine how the coaches feel. Every coach should have input Into who is drafted.

The first thing blank of smith or dimitroff seem to reply to the "nasty" or "toughness" question is that they have their own definiton of what that means. I believe integrity doesn't have to be sacrificed to show toughness, but nastiness is more breaking rules and they will probably still keep the filter in that regaurde

The destruction Michael Vick caused the Falcons organization essentially created the Falcons filter. I don't think most fans realize how deep the cut was because as a fanbase we've experienced a pretty successful turnaround compared to so many teams like the BIlls, Browns, Dolphins, Raiders, etc... who just f it up every year for one reason or another. The org NEVER wants to make that mistake again because of how Vick made everyone look like fools for running an illegal dog fighting ring under their noses. I don't see the filter letting up anytime in the near future, but I agree that shouldn't stop the team from being good. Step one might be to quit taking lineman from second tier colleges.

You were right up until that part.

We have taken high picks on OL/DL, from good schools (Baker - Wisconsin, Jerry - Ole Miss, etc...) maybe not god-tier schools for linemen like Bama/UGA/USC (at high picks) but... I think that's more on TDs talent evaluation than the school/draft order.

Baker came from USC, .......Konz came from Wisconsin..........Mike Johnson came from Bama, two of those are from what you called god-tier schools. How's that worked out so far?

The "Falcon Filter" only exists on this message board.

Somewhat. But the Falcons organization does red flag players with questionable pasts. That cannot be denied. There is a few posters that take it a little to far, probably half from what I see, but it can't be denied that the Falcons do shy away from certain players for off the field concerns.
