Big Bubba
I really................hope it's the Packers. Not because I think they're a bad team, but because their defense isn't elite like the 9ers.. for whatever reason, Shula has been horrible with calling plays against good defenses.. ultra-conservative. Big Bubba
We gonna live or die by Shula. Just seems like the bigger the game, the more conservative Shula becomes.
Dr. Do Itch Big
I think the 49ers are a tougher match up.
Big Bubba
49ers have an elite defense, and they finally have Crabtree back at 100%. Beat em at their house, and I think we can beat em again at our house...Packers though, just seem like the weakest team remaining now that the Eagles are eliminated... Would rather go with the easier challenge.

His defense is weak just like the last couple seasons but they're dominate when Rodgers plays. They were around 5-2 when he got hurt.

I believe our defense can smother the 9ers offense, but, I feel our offense can take advantage a little, of the Packers defense. Rodgers is elite......but, Packers have more holes than the 9ers. SuperAINTSfan
The defenses are nearly a wash. The 49ers offense is better than a non-playoff caliber offense the Meows have (that's not saying much though) should be a tough contest. What's Carolinas o ranking? Big Bubba
Meows26th and 18th49ers24th and 11thProbably. WFW thinks Kap's running ability might make the difference. Cam and the Meows offense barely beat the Falcons with 9 sacks. This is the playoffs and the 49ers are not Atlanta's defense. Still look for a tight game.Didn't it take a miracle pick 6 from the 9ers with seconds remaining, to beat the Falcons? And the game was IN San Fran? Give your team some credit... they performed admirably well against the Panthers and 9ers.

Steve Smith isn't what he used to be, but he's still our only WR that can seem to get open... don't underestimate the value of that. Rewind
Bumps in the road come playoff time are not what champions are made of...not even counting the 26th and 18th ranked offense And the 2nd seed in the playoffs.

alwaysfallforward
OP, don't you think it kind of makes sense to be more conservative in what will probably be a low scoring game? The Niners can create turnovers and get sacks against pass happy teams, and in a low scoring game turnovers can kill you. This game could easily be won 9-6.Plus, Carolina's offense along with San Fransisco's have both been able to score points methodically in the past. Consistent gains enough to get first downs, limit the other team's possessions. CAR did it against NE, with 7 possessions putting up 24.They do not need a dominant vertical attack to score points. alwaysfallforward
I figured that but what exactly does it mean, what is the formula used to find it?
SuperAINTSfan
I figured that but what exactly does it mean, what is the formula used to find it? THE SHORT VERSION:DVOA is a method of evaluating teams, units, or players. It takes every single play during the NFL season and compares each one to a league-average baseline based on situation. DVOA measures not just yardage, but yardage towards a first down: Five yards on third-and-4 are worth more than five yards on first-and-10 and much more than five yards on third-and-12. Red zone plays are worth more than other plays. Performance is also adjusted for the quality of the opponent. DVOA is a percentage, so a team with a DVOA of 10.0% is 10 percent better than the average team, and a quarterback with a DVOA of -20.0% is 20 percent worse than the average quarterback. Because DVOA measures scoring, defenses are better when they are negative.http://www.footballoutsiders.com/info/methods
