Bucs Hire Lovie Smith

111 posts in this topic

Peanut Tillman was allowed to shadow receivers some games(the 2 Lions games in 12 I believe) and was allowed to play his flat zone aggressive as Revis played his man coverage...Lovie doesn't play soft with his corners unless they go cover 3. he also employs plenty of Cover 1s

we will see next year.

It's funny how some posters say this signing doesn't scare them and the BUCS will still suck when your own team went 4-12 and got beat by the bucs..if they get that offense right, they could be in the mix for winning the division next year while we still sitting at the bottom wondering what happened..

Tampa has a better roster than we do for sure. Most of their best players are on the right side of 30. Their D has the potential to be elite. Schiano and Freeman were the problems with that team.

Buccaneers hired Lovie Smith as head coach.

Credit Adam Schefter for first tabbing Smith as the heavy favorite in Tampa, and Jay Glazer for breaking news of the actual hire. Previous reports have indicated Smith will be accompanied by Jeff Tedford to coordinate the Bucs' offense, and Leslie Frazier to run the defense. Turning 56 in May, Smith spent 2013 out of football after being fired by the Bears, where he was head coach for nine years and earned an 81-63 record with one Super Bowl berth. Smith is set up for success with the Bucs, who have far more talent than their 4-12 2013 record suggests. The Bucs are hiring Smith before a general manager, which suggests Lovie will have plenty of personnel power. We'd view this as a fairly high-risk, boom-or-bust hire despite Smith's successful track record.

do people actually watch other teams play? Tillman is probably the most physical cover 2 corner in the league...matter fact, f*ck probably, he's hands down the most physical cover 2 corner. Revis has a problem with SOFT ZONES...Lovie Smith knows how to get his players in the best position to make plays. he won't have Revis playing soft outside of his cover 3 bail technique

This appointment should make the NFC South a 3 horse race next year.

Are we counting out this year's winner? The NFC South tradition.

Boy if they draft Clowney we are gonna be f****d. That will be a potent defense and our offense just got more weak with Tony riding off into the sunset.

we've won the NFC South and still been in the NFC South race...so have the Saints. the first to last thing ended with us in 09...or was it last to first?...if so it ended with us/Tampa in 2010

No. I am counting us out. Carolina, Tampa and New Orleans are all better teams then us.

He inherited a pretty good OL in Tampa so he doesn't even have to worry about that. Keep building the defense and just pound the rock with Martin.

The Bucs have an above average O line, a young up and coming D line with talent all over the place. Thier run game is very good. The Bucs have no glaring weaknesses, and thier draft picks are every bit as good as ours except they can actually go BPA thruout thier draft.

And now they just hired a good defensive HC who took his team to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman as his QB?

I'll tell you guys this...our division just got tougher.

Thanks to TD's past ineptitude at drafting, our Falcons are about to break that tradition in a big way. Unless Smitty can bail him out, that is.

I see NO getting a little weaker.

Every year I've been saying Tampa is getting stronger. Well consider the 9 sacks MR took against Carolina as a warm-up.

Were about to get left in the dust
