The Falcons Only Have 2 Problems

At 3-9 we have plenty of big issues on the team... but if you really review it all of our big issues on the team comes down to only 2 problems.

1) Stopping 3rd/4th and short

2) Converting 3rd/4th and short

If we can do both of those things.... we are going to the super bowl in 2014. Now by achieving those two factors... it almost guarantees it fixes all of our problems.

If we can stop other teams on 3rd/4th and 2 or less.... it means we are getting penetration. Attacking the ball carrier. This year... it 3rd and 2...we are giving up 4-6 yard gains almost CONSTANTLY. The defensive line is not making enough plays in the backfield or even at the line of scrimmage. An ability to control the line, and make more plays. It also helps us get out of 2nd and 4th and make those 2nd and 8s. When we do force a 3rd down... getting off the field. A defense that is off the field less...presses less. This will help us avoid those ridiculous and annoying penalties on defense with guys doing everything they can to get off the field. The defense won't get run down as much. A fresher defense is more effective. This will also make teams be more aggressive, because it isn't a guarantee they can convert on the 3rd and 4th and short... so an aggressive team makes more errors... and maybe our leader in interceptions won't have 2 at this point next season.

Converting 3rd and short is maybe a worse issue we have than the defense. This year I can remember multiple times of having 2nd in less than 5...and punting. Routine 3 and outs. If we have longer drives it obviously means more points and favorable time of possession. Again playing looser on defense... less dumb penalties. It will also help us wear the defense out over the course of the game, which can help us take over in the 4th quarter like Michael Turner used to. In every game this year (even our 3 victories) we got worn out. We were up big on St Louis and Tampa and almost let both come back. Buffalo fumbled the game to us but they were moving up and down the field without a problem otherwise. Longer drives in the first quarter of the game will help us finish teams at the end. Plus why bother having Stevie Jax if you can't even use him. No 100 yard games yet for a possible future hall of famer? That shouldn't happen. It will also help Matt Ryan so much in the passing game. If we are able to control the line on 3rd and shorts, we will also control the line more on passing downs. Keep Matt Ryan standing up by actually over powering people for once. And the cliche "8th man in the box" to stop the run will help Julio/Roddy and gang cruise by defenses. We are going to need this even more than ever without Tony G. We have in my opinion 3 different running backs who could start for an NFL team.... and we can't use them properly because of our Swiss cheese O line.

I am telling you right now, we need to fix those two problems. If we do we are going to win a lot with the skill players we are have. We could very well win a super bowl.

Lol.

Why not just say we really only have one problem.

Finishing with more points than the other team at the end of games.

At least seven:

1. Can't run block worth a dam (outside of @MIA and @BUF games)

2. Can't pass block worth a dam

3. Can't stop the run no matter who we face

4. Can't get heat on the QB to save our lives

5. Sorry special teams. No return game. Blocked punts. Shaky kick coverage unit

6. Too many turnovers

7. Not enough takeaways

Now that you mention blocked punts, when was the last time Falcons blocked a punt because I can't remember seeing it done. I don't even think they try

Think about it guys.... All the problems listed have been problems for years! What does that say about the organization!

And yet we almost made the Super Bowl last year. Super Bowl teams have strengths and weaknesses that just choose to fix the key weaknesses. Ours is simply the oline as we are geared to score high points and defend big leads. Improved line play will result in more points and a better run game. However we also need to be able to protect that lead so a coverage linebacker and a better pass rush are also a secondary need. This can be sourced in one season with a good draft and a couple of solid FA pickups.

This have been my team for twenty seven years and I only see one problem with it. Front office!!!!!!! We make the super bowl in 1998 and then we get rid of every player that helped us get there. We make the playoffs for a few years straight then we don't add on to key players who were big for us we get rid of them. Players that we should've kept, John Abraham, Curtis Lofton, Brent Grimes, Harvey Dahl, Tyson Clabo, and add players like Osi, Worrilow, the two young defensive backs. We are just not aggresive enough in free agency. We pick up one or two positives in the draft. All these come from one problem. Front Office!!!!!!!

Add getting out coached and TD, then I think we are good.
