jazzyburrell
We all thought Mike Nolan's clever scheme would create a pass rush. The #1 Defense (most sacks, etc.) KC, lost their two best pass rushers and looked exactly like the Falcons = 0 pass rush and ineffective blitzes and their vaunted secondary was all of a sudden very vulnerable. All of this is to say we HAVE to get actual pass rushers this offseason. No new coordinator, just real actual guys who are either NFL proven or beasts in college. No more 5th and 6th round picks (sorry Bierman and Massoquoi).Thoughts? Lornoth
Coordinators can help or hurt a D, but in the end the talent of the Players is what matters most. Dunno why people can't seem to understand this.
UnrealfalcoN
players also make the offense. our biggest stars were injured while the oline was never good.
Psychic Gibbon
The front seven was in flux to start with and had players in roles that didn't suit them. Couple that with the injuries and you get our current defense.
jazzyburrell
speak for yourself. some of us realized long ago that you can pour syrup on **** but that don't make it pancakes. mike nolan wasnt going to come in here and turn td's turdpile into the 2000 ravens.Maybe "hoped" is the correct verb? Biermann is more of a Rush OLB. Massaquoi was a project. He will get better. Kroy moves full time to LB next year, IMHO. Get the best pass rusher available. With the second or third round pick, get the best NT that you can find. NT or OT, in no particular order. Play more man coverage, and tell the safeties to play their own roles. We need a proven commodity and instant production there next season which a rookie simply can't do, at least most likely won't. As for the O-line, it's more important to shift to a zone blocking scheme to fit our current players better, get a competent O-line coach, and shoring up the interior O-line is much more important than getting an RT. trashmetalx
I love when people use the term "generate a pass rush" there is no such thing. Blitzing is to augment your pass rush and confuse the opposition. When you have to consistently bring 5+ guys to get pressure, the QB is just seeing wide open receivers. That's why we need an elite talent like Clowney. Make the offense use resources on a particular guy.
Mr. Right
We also learned that having a 20M QB doesn't mean you can win more than 2 games. It's about the players around him.

J-Wall
Players PLAY coaches COACH. If you don't have players making plays it doesn't matter the play call

NCFalconfan
Get some SEC blood in here as well. No more of these Central Idaho State reaches. If you played in the SEC you were among the best, playing against the best on a weekly basis. I say this as someone who openly roots against the SEC as well. FalconFanForLife
I totally agree on the talent weakness here in Atlanta. It just makes me sick to think how much better this defense could have been if we had found a way to keep Abraham here this year.
didz
Yet the same Saints defense was a **** hole last year but this year under Rob Ryan, they are winning games. You marks need to stop making excuses for this ******* **** team called the Falcons.

PokerSteve
I may be in the minority but I want Nolan in the ATL for the foreseeable future ... Indeed. I could even go for Nolan being the sole survivor of a massive purge among the coaching ranks at Flowery Branch come 2015.
UnrealfalcoN
I hope we get Raji and 2 OL in FAif that happens we can draft Clowney and Trent Murphy DE in the second round. They will be like the Kerney and Abe combo that we never saw in fruition.Under a superbowl winning DE like Osi, the new guys will learn. we will be set for years on defense.
