I know we want to blame the defense. But in a lot of games they start strong, but then trot right back out after the offense goes 3 and out 75% of the time. of course they get winded and give up big chunks afterwards.

Fact is we put all of our money and picks into the offense, with $20 million a year at one position, they should be doing much better than they are

Montana and rice in there prime couldn't do squat with this line

he just need his top level receivers healthy to succeed. Can't do it without them

Well....yeah. That's part of the problem. He's making more money than all but a couple of guys in the NFL. If you are going to pay him like an elite QB he should be able to make due with a few backups. He should make those guys better. I realize that the OL is terrible, but Ryan sucks at buying himself time, and he refuses to take some chances. He'd rather check down on a 3rd and 15 while we are down by 10 with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter than throw one down the field and try to fit it into a small window. ****, Romo always chokes, but at least he has the balls to take some risks. Matt Ryan is Mike Smith on the field.

After everyone on both sides of the Ryan discussion have had their say, there remains one incontrovertible fact: Matt Ryan is being paid like a QB with the talent, leadership and athleticism to put a struggling team on his back and get the job done, but he is just not that guy. He is not performing like an elite QB, regardless of the shaky OL play, and we all know it's been terrible. But throw out these last few games of his. Take a long, hard look at Ryan's performances in the play-offs. We're talking average, at best. Hardly elite. One win and 10 turnovers in his play-off career are not something that can be ignored or glossed over.

Now let's take a hard look at Ryan's performance in rivalry games, nationally televised games and games against top-tier talent. His one shining hour was the game against the Giants when the Falcons had everything go their way and beat them 35-0. Other than that, Ryan has not performed at an elite level. Now going back to his contract extension. I liked Ryan, but I was not for handing him a $100 million deal. He simply hadn't proven he was worth that then and that's still true now.

However you want to slice it, again the fact remains Ryan has not been worth $20 million a season. He may someday reach that level and be able to carry a team and honestly earn $20 million a season, but at this point, I don't see that as a realistic possibility any more. The Falcons are now basically saddled with little more than an above-average QB with no mobility and a penchant for turning the ball over in the big games and play-offs and a roster of average to below-average players. Add in keeping Smith and TD around and you do not have a recipe for a quick bounce-back to respectability in 2014.

*standing ovation*

yeah hard to say someone who is upset is a troll. If you're satisfied watching this team every week it's your prerogative but a lot of people are just saying bitter truths that people have difficulty embracing regarding Ryan, the coaching staff, front office, offensive line, and defense. it was just plain LAUGHABLE to see Tampa score that much on us

Dharma, now you are about to be on the other side of it. Watch closely now. It gets interesting.

BTW Other Posters: Before we start talking about OL's and such, Ryan is getting paid like an elite QB. They are looked at and paid to carry a team even when the OL is shaky. Ryan is indecisive, which is why he needs a better OL. That is not $100mil talent whether you need to believe so or not. I admit he needs more help, but lately its been nonsense.

Smh

With a rookie 3rd round QB and a throwaway RB...

he should be able to perform like an elite qb with the money he makes regardless of who his weapons are. But he can't. It is what it is.
