Be Careful Of What You Wish For

You might just get it. Most of you wanted Clabo, McClure, D-Rob, Grimes, Chris Owens, Abe, and Turner gone after the NFC Championship debacle. Chris Owens isn't panning out...Abe's too old...Dunta/Clabo/McClure has lost a step...Turner is done....Grimey's wife is a Twitter whore...all that rhetoric led to what we have now. Inexperience at OL...A RB who is an upgrade but is injured...Rookie corners that should not be thrown into the defensive fire....drafted players that aren't ready for primetime yet.

What works on Madden doesn't work in real life. You can have all the All-Pros you can afford but it won't do you a bit of good if you have no chemistry. You can draft younger, faster but it won't do you any good if there aren't 'glue guys' to hold things together and settle everyone down. Turner and McClure were glue guys...when **** seemed to get bad, they steadied things. Abe, Clabo, D-Rob, Grimes, and Owens were vets who knew their jobs. The may have lost a step but they knew the drill and the tricks to get us through.

Please be careful about wishing to get rid of Smitty. You don't fire a good coach without having a known upgrade in your back pocket. Don't believe me? Ask Philly how that's working out.

Clabo isn't doing well, Robinson is garbage, McClure got thrown around like a rag doll, Grimes was purely a zone corner when the defense was shifting to man coverage, Abe has done literally nothing this season, and Turner was running on fumes all of last season. What we have here is a bunch of inexperienced players taking their lumps as they replace veterans that needed replacing.

Why him, though? Completely different personnel and styles of offense.

1. He gets the most out of his personnel in creative ways. If that means running the read option, then fine. If that means running a traditional offense, then fine. Whatever puts the offense in the best situation to win games.

2. His unit imposes its will on other teams even with lackluster talent in the trenches.

3. He has a keen eye for talent and will push hard to get it (eg. he's the reason they drafted Russell Wilson).

4. The system he comes from is simply far more appealing than Zimmer's. They play to win and they are utterly ruthless.

5. This team is built to be driven by the offense. It makes far more sense to get an offensive minded coach to complement that.

I am pretty sure right about now the Vikings, Bucs, or Jags would love to get Smitty or Nolan.

Nolan already has a track record of being a great DC but a terrible head coach. As for Smitty, he's a good coach to have to right the ship of teams in chaos (Bucs) but he hits a plateau once they become competitive. As for the Jags, they knew full well what this season was going to be like with holes littered throughout the roster that they simply did not have the draft picks to fix and with a QB situation of Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne. They'll let Bradley build the team he wants especially after they get him an NFL caliber QB, which at this point is looking like Bridgewater.
