Arthur Blank does'nt have the stones to fire Mike Smith. Arthur Blank is a brilliant businessman but

we all know that he has doubled down here and no matter how bad our record ends up being this year or next year Mike Smith and "Smitty Ball" is here to stay----like it or not.

Who should he replaced with that is substantially better and actually available??? --- I don't know but at least someone who has the common sense to have a killer instinct and plays to win and steamroll over their opponent instead if someone who politely just wants to hang-on and meander their way to possible victory

lets not be stupid, we are not firing our coach after the 3rd week of the season. If you did that, you might as well chalk up a losing season with no playoffs this year already. Smitty is our best shot to win the Lombardy this year. Period.

Ack. I hate that you are right. :/ I want Nolan next year, barring a Lombardi.

Smith isn't going anywhere this year, no matter how this season ends. He is also not going anywhere next season, no matter what happens. But after that, if this team is grossly under-performing, I think you'll see Koetter get jettisoned and Blank will put Smith put on notice he must get deep in the play-offs in 2015 to stick around. Just my feeling.

I guess my point is - Blank will not be firing Mike Smith for the next few years

(Not just this year) regardless of how bad our record ends up being this year or next year

Which is unfortunate for us because it seems pretty clear that although Mike Smith might be a good coach to have a "winning record" with - he is clearly not a coach with a killer instinct which we have seen that aspect of him in each year he has been here -- with the trying to hold on and fall backwards and meander into victories with the exception that being

The Giants game last year---- just read the statistic below from

BMoreFalconsFan09's post

Since 2008, There Has Been 16 Games Where We Led In The 4Th...

...To have the other team either tie the game or take the lead, including the playoffs:

2008

Week 6: 19-10 in 4th quarter against Bears; Bears led 20-19 (Falcons Won 22-20)

Week 11: 17-13 in 4th quarter against Broncos; Broncos won 24-20

Week 14: 25-22 in 4th quarter against Saints; Saints won 29-25

Week 16: 24-17 in 4th quarter against Rams, tied at 24 (Falcons Won 31-27)

2009

Week 6: 14-7 in 4th quarter against Bears; tied at 14 (Falcons Won 21-14)

Week 7: 10-4 in 4th quarter against Bucs; tied at 10 (Falcons Won 20-10)

2010

Week 3: 24-21 in 4th quarter against Saints; tied at 24 (Falcons Won 27-24)

Week 8: 20-7 in 4th quarter against Ravens; Ravens led 21-20 in 4th (Falcons won 26-21)

Week 10: 17-10 in 4th quarter against Packers; tied at 17 in 4th (Falcons won 20-17)

Week 16: 14-10 in 4th quarter against Saints; Saints won 17-14

2011

N/A

2012

Week 4: 24-21 in 4th against Panthers; Panthers led 28-24 in 4th (Falcons won 30-28)

Week 6: 20-13 in 4th against Raiders; tied at 20 (Falcons won 23-20)

Week 12: 17-13 in 4th against Bucs; Bucs led 20-17 (Falcons won 24-23)

Divisional: 27-7 in 4th against Seahawks; Seahawks led 28-27 (Falcons won 30-28)

Conference: 24-21 in 4th against 49ers; 49ers won 28-24

2013

Week 3: 23-20 in 4th quarter against Dolphins; Dolphins won 27-23

It's a record that is getting worn out. It's a trend that is definitely getting very old. Yes, we did win a majority of those games. However, the inability to maintain a lead when you are up in the final quarter is worrisome. Let's not talk about the games where we had the lead after the 1st half, the list would be even longer.

Smith isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Not even if we have our first losing season in 6 years. Matt Ryan locked up Smitty's job for a while with that comeback against the Seahags. If we would have lost, this team would currently have a new head coach.

Then you all could be screaming for him to be fired right now.

Yeah because the last 5 games of typical Smitty team second half collapses would happen with every coach. /durp
