Earl Thomas Comes To Sherman's Defense:

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else seen Earl come to Sherman's defense via Twitter? It is actually amusing since he is accusing the usually reserved Bailey of talking smack about "the best corner in the NFL.". Thought the article was funny so figured I would share...

Richard Sherman on Roddy White: Not a top 100 player in NFL

Posted by Jayson Jenks

The NFL Network is slowly revealing its top 100 players in the NFL, and on Thursday night the network revealed players ranked between 31 and 40. One of those players was Roddy White, the receiver from the Falcons who Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman exchanged words with last year. They had some more words for each other on the show.

White was ranked the 39th best player in the NFL. Sherman was 50th on the list.

Here’s what Sherman had to say about White: “Roddy White top 100? No. In my book he’s just not a top 100 player…Julio Jones is high on my list because they have to account for him.”

White had a chance to answer on the show and took a bit of a more diplomatic approach:

“Richard Sherman, Richard Sherman.I’m not going to come out and say he shouldn’t be a top 100 player because he should be a top 100 player. But he talks too much. He’s kind of talked himself into a place where he has to play some really good football this year. I have no problem [with] what he says; that I’m not that good, or I can’t do this or I can’t do that. But I know the rest of the players in this league know what I can do and that’s why I’m higher on this list than he is.”

Later in the show, White was a bit more direct in regards to Sherman. White’s biggest complaint? Sherman talks too much.

“He would actually be the first guy that I would want to face…because frankly I watch film and I know what I can do. I know what my ability is [and] I know what his ability is. So I sit there and watch him and I’m like, ‘OK, I’m not sitting here losing any sleep getting ready to play Richard Sherman.’ These [other] guys on the list like Charles Woodson – I know I have to be on top of my game. I know when I play [Charles Tillman] I have to be on top of my game. I know when I play against [Darrelle] Revis I have to be on top of my game. Other than that, I’m just going out there and playing football…He’s a frontrunner; when things are going good, he’s all good. When things aren’t going his way, then he has nothing to say. That’s just how he is. You let him talk in the offseason because that’s what he likes to do; you let guys like that talk but then at some point when September comes around you have to come play football.”

White went on to say that Sherman “talked his way into an All-Pro.” Champ Bailey, the veteran corner, also had something to say of Sherman on the show: “This guy talks too much.”

Don’t forget: The Seahawks and Falcons play Week 10 this season.

UPDATE: A little later in the night, teammate Earl Thomas came to Sherman’s defense on Twitter:

Lost respect for champ bailey talking down on @RSherman_25 #lowblow talk to much #best corner in the league!!!!

I really hate the way the NFL channel put that together. They are deliberately trying to cause conflict.

How many other of the top 100 videos have you seen since the beginning where they had players on the video talking down the player - and then the guy presenting had to defend him.

They did the presentation in a degrading and disrespectful way to Roddy in my opinion just to stir up controversy.

Disgusting - Roddy deserves better.

I agree with you Tandy. This is supposed to be a moment of proud reflection for a heck of a season. Instead The NFL Network turned it into a production in a vain attempt to infuse drama to a situation already teeming with it.

Yeah the media can't stand we have two top 10 receivers that get along. They're trying to bust the team up because the media loves controversy and I think the media is scared of us winning because when we win the Superbowl there will be tons of crow to be eaten.

As for Sherman dude is just scared of Roddy and Julio.

Roddy has nothing to prove, Roddy has been the most consistent WR in the NFL since 2007, Roddy's game is mental and being a precise WR and he is the ultimate professional on the field. Even Roddy's twitter stuff has gotten more mature and Roddy always puts int he time in the film room and at practice.

Roddy is a perfect example of a professional ALL Pro WR and no one at this point should be questioning him being a top 100 player. The guy has had better than 1100 yards EVERY year since 2007, freakin impressive.

I think EVERYBODY(fans and the media) are making too much out of this whole situation.

Sherman is just talking shjt. Roddy is just talking shjt. Its a rivalry between two shjt talking players. So what?

This^^^^^

Stop unnecessarily getting down on the NFL Network. They are doing what they supposed to do. If Sherman wasn't talking ish then it wouldn't be anything. Just giving the players a stage.

Totally agree, that said it's a Falcon player, what else can we expect? The media hates us. They get 2 Saints players to analyze our team on Total access.
